Has anyone here put Monstaliner (or another similar coating) on the outside of their second gen? How did it turn out? Got any pictures?

The paint on mine is getting pretty bad and I’m thinking of coating it instead of repainting it. The factory color is black sand pearl but I feel like flat black bed liner would get really hot (and it’s kind of boring). I’m leaning towards the color “pyroclastic”. Any opinions?

Of course you can do as you like with color or coating.

Have you considered what this type of coating could do to the value of the truck? This could be a big negative on resale value for the next owner.

Pyroclastic looks like it's basically just black. Nardont looks like Lunar Rock, that might be cool... Hard to say with those small sample images.

I had mine Rhino lined last year and it been my favorite thing I've done to it. It's so much more durable than paint and it's super easy to take care of. I've drove it down a lot of super brushy roads and it's held up perfectly.

I thought about it, but it needs something sprayed on it either way. It’s been parked outside in a high desert for 16 years and it shows…not to mention it has pinstripes all over from bushes/branches. It seems pointless to paint it when it’ll just get scratched up again.

I doubt I’ll ever sell it, but even if I did, it’s so heavily modified that it just wouldn’t make sense to sell it to anyone who doesn’t want an off-roader/overlander. Rear axle swap, regeared, twin stick FJ case, Fox factory series RR on all 4 corners, steel bumpers, sliders, etc.

Good to hear! That’s my main reason for wanting to use bed liner actually. It’s pinstriped pretty bad already, and if I paint it it’ll just get scratched up again.

Aaaand Monstaliner is in short supply due to the supply chain breaking down. As in, there is no eta. I’m looking at Raptor Liner now, although the color choices are more limited. Maybe beige or basalt gray? upload_2021-11-9_20-58-46.jpg

My ARE shell was ordered from the factory with a LineX coating, and I love the flat black/metallic blue combo on my truck- but if you’re talking about a textured bed liner type paint, it’s about a bitch to clean. Dirt really sticks to it, and any Spanish moss that falls from my trees clings like it belongs on the shell. I have a big hard bristled brush that seems to be about the only way to actually get it clean. Really gotta scrub that SOB.
I can’t imagine the hassle of my entire truck textured that way.. :frusty:

There's a tintable formulation of Raptor Liner, as I recall.

It's not bad at all. I don't get crazy with mine, I just spray it off with a pressure washer. I've never even used soap on it. It's definitely not a show truck but it doesn't look bad especially if you consider where I've driven it.

I'd wait for the Monstaliner. Very different texture of the finish, no rubber chips, etc etc.

Is it 'pretty'. Probably not, but at least it's smooth-ish, thus easier to clean. And you can get some interesting colors.

Black bed liner is like other black out stuff. Overplayed.
