I had that problem with the passengers side last year and it turned out it was a slight tear in a rubber seal in engine bay. Silicone and problem solved. I noticed yesterday when I lifted my rubber floor mat there was moisture. After a few hours in the sun, dry as a bone. Today I lifted the carpet from the floor and the padding was moist as with the metal on the floor board. It's right where you feet would sit. Just damp. I hit it with a fan and opened all doors being 80's and sunny. Seems all dry now. I removed the cowl and it was clear as day. I did run some silicone in the seam in the cowl and in the engine bay where the fender meets the firewall. I have no idea where it's coming from.

Subbed, I have the same issue when it rains. Carpet under my all weather mats gets wet, dries out when the weather clears up.

Was thinking it might be the weather stripping around my door, it lets a lot of wind/road noise through on the highway so it probably needs replaced. But open to hearing what others might have to say.

I thought the same thing, but the border of the carpet is dry

Were you running the a/c could the drain be clogged backing up? or a leaking heater core.

Just getting in and out of the truck on rainy days was enough the carpet and insulation soaked up water like a sponge .

Hot humid days don`t let it dry.

My truck lives inside so not out in the sun but when in use

Because I was forever dragging slop into the truck I just took out the carpet the insulation .

Sprayed bed liner on the floor called it good.

It just stayed damp most of the time in the winter it would freeze and thaw

Did you look at the condition of the plastic grommets in the body that these screws tighten into? I know some water can get past them if they are cracked, or the foam washer is gone off them.

    upload_2020-6-18_8-12-22.jpg

Also, you might check the rubber grommets where the door wire harness passes through the body to connect to the door, and where the main engine wire to IP & hood cable pass into the body from the engine room.

Door W/H grommet can be seen in the door jam area. Eng W/H check it by the master cylinder or up under the dash.

If you live in rust belt, you could have a hole rusted through the floor. One of my trucks had one in the driver floor area, just inboard from the scuff plate.

I thought about that for mine at first, but mine only gets wet on rainy days so it's definitely weather related. Somehow water from outside is soaking my driver side carpet inside the truck. The carpet is covered in Husky all weather liners so it's not my feet getting it wet, and if it's multiple days of rain it gets really wet (yes I checked the Husky liners for holes/cracks)

I'm going to look into the weather stripping as well as the paneling beside the seat that's screwed in there. I've had to remove it before and it might be in bad shape.

Checked everything else you mentioned by spraying water into the engine compartment, bone dry. Either my silicone job from yesterday solved it or it's possibly those cowl grommets. In the end, it could be anything

We just had a heavy downpour for the past 2 hours and I just went outside and found water in the groove where my finger is pointing to and it (water) went over right on to the metal

How is the fit of your door? We just discussed striker adjustment in another thread a day or two ago. Maybe you need to snug up the fit of the door to the body by adjusting your striker inboard a bit to pull the door tighter when closed.

Just an example from 2003 FSM:

Not sure. When it rains, I have always noticed that the outer side of the weatherstripping (as shown in pics above) always has water under the lip

The drip weatherstrip piece near the roof possibly?

My Taco guy showed up and the weatherstripping is shot both sides. I did not want to spend the cash, but no choice. I just placed an OEM order ($400 shipped) for the following:

    62311-04010 Door Weather-Strip $131.74 (2) $263.48
    62381-04030 Drip Weather-Strip $71.82 (1) $71.82
    62382-04030 Drip Weather-Strip $71.82 (1) $71.82

is that rubber still soft and 'squishy' or turning brittle and cracked?

yes i notice too after giving it a good wash and wiping down the door jams there seems to be a pool of water under the lip there, (but nothing in the groove channel)
always thought it was normal :notsure:

my doors still close like new with the nice sound (never been screwed with)

It's not brittle or cracked, but looks and feels very worn being 25 years old. Same with the drip strip. Those are flattened in a few places also. When I close my door and/or driving it feels like the window is cracked open or the door is not closed all the way (hear noise)

I find it kind of funny that the FSM actually recommends fixing something by hitting it with a BFH haha
