I'm new to the site and joined because I bought a used 2010 tacoma and later noticed that there was a notice on the doorframe saying that modifications had reduced towing capacity by 500 lbs. not a big deal because I'm not hauling a lot, but somebody that changed the oil saw that notice and asked if it had a 2.4 L because he used the recommended amount of oil and it seemed maybe slightly over full. It's been in an accident, but is not supposed to be a rebuild. I bought the truck with a full warranty and have had no problems in the 5 months I've owned it. Just wondering if it's possible that it's a 2.4 L or what other mods might be responsible so I know exactly what I have on my hands. Doesn't seem to be lowered or anything. Seems to have good power for a 4-cylinder truck. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mine has a sticker that says the load capacity has been reduced by 1 KG due to modifications. Wonder what they put on it that weighted 2 1/5 pounds? Guess that's one less stick of fire wood I can't haul.

Mine had a sticker that reduced it by about 5 or 10 pounds. Operative word is "had". It annoyed me.

I remember there being a issue where the manufacturers had to put new stickers on trucks due to more stringent standards for towing and capacities. Something to that effect.

I had predator steps installed at build time, and my truck has a warning that the capacity has been reduced by 45lbs. 22.5lbs per side step sounds reasonable.

I know it's a 4-cylinder. It's supposed to be a 2.7 L though. Thanks for your replies. I didn't think it had a 2.4, seems like that would reduce towing capacity by more than 500 lbs. just asking out of curiosity since the idea was put in my head. Love the truck though so the mods don't seem to be a problem.

No he's not saying that. He was wondering if the towing capacity was reduced by 500 pounds because it was a 4cyl.

Not because it's a 4-cylinder, but because somebody suggested that it might be a smaller 4-cylinder than it should. Sure doesn't feel like it has a corolla engine though haha

I got a sticker in the mail along time ago that I had to put over the sticker on the door jam. I noticed today that the new sticker pretty much disintegrated and is gone guess I got my payload back. LOL

Haha love the pic. Glad to have found a network of people who can answer any questions I may have since I'm not experienced with trucks at all really.
