There seems to be an up-tick in vehicle thefts in my area - a point that hit home recently after a friend’s older Subaru was stolen right in front of his house. If his Subaru was targeted, I’d imagine my truck would be, too.

Does anyone here have any specific recommendations for 1st gen compatible anti-theft systems? While my truck is obviously insured, we all know a check from the adjuster isn’t really a substitute for one of these trucks..

On my 79 cj5, I put an under dash switch that cut power to the ignition box.

car alarm. If this old truck means something to you its a good investment. Have it installed properly and by a professional local to you.

You could pull the fuel system fuse or starter fuse if you don’t drive it everyday. I do that when i have to leave my 03 street parked for more than a few days. Not ideal for a daily driver, but somethin that could work at least until you find a more permanent solution

You have a manual transmission. That should stop about 90 percent of would be thieves.

Viper Alarm and $50 small locator device , from your cell tells you exact locationof the truck and or whatever you want to track, it’s a little bigger than a quater.

What would be an easy way to disable a 1st gen Taco with auto transmission? If I wanted to hide a small switch to kill power to the fuel pump, where would I interrupt power? Or is there a better way? My truck already has a Viper alarm which was installed by the shop I purchased from. Very happy. But perhaps I can do more to protect the truck.

Alarm was installed because it was broken into in the parking lot out back of my place. I don't think it was an attempt to steal the vehicle, just my stuff.

If they really want it, they can steal it regardless. Keep in mind, all these are just deterant.

They'll show up with a tow truck at 3am and no one will question that.

If thieves really want your car, they will take it (tow truck). But the thing is that thieves don't like to linger around for too long. So the only thing you can do is slow them down to make them lose interest and move on to another car

Anti-theft/alarm system is a good investment. Then adding a killswitch or two wouldn't hurt either. And on top of that, a club. I think that would be enough to piss off a thief and leave your truck alone
