Having trouble figuring out what I would be giving up by going with a TRD Offroad Prem. vs a TRD Pro? Is it worth the 12k CAD price increase? I rarely go offroad other then logging roads. I'm set on having some features like leather and a sunroof. Don't like the look of the sport models with the painted fender flares.

Tempted to order a new truck but unsure what to order exactly. Currently have a 2018 Ram 2500 with 6.7 and G65 Manual but just getting tired of the large truck and manual transmission. Want something more compact but still able to tow small flat deck with a UTV on it if I need to.

Also unsure if I should wait couple more months to see if the 2024s change much and if the 2.4 hybrid from the lexus lineup becomes an option. I would lean much more towards a hybrid because what i am reading the current gen is terrible on fuel? I know my diesel gets 20+mpg regularly.

The Pro was built to look cool at the red light, I'm sure it's more dependable than any 1/2 ton but at what the price of a new one costs, I'd get the Silverado 1500 3.0 duramax. If you want to down size from a 2500 Ram and use the truck how you describe. Now if I was going for a midsize to drive around and accomplish light truck tasks, a 2.7 utility pkg is what I would go with.

I believe this is what a Pro comes with that a fully-loaded OR doesn't. Added a USD estimated price on the things that can be easily added to OR:

    Appearance (Interior & Exterior)

    1. Option for exclusive paint color. ($ N/A)
    2. PRO Badging (Headlights, bed stamp, tailgate, seat badges and red stitching) ($N/A, appearance items)
    3. Rigid fog lights (OR has comparable fogs)
    4. Scooped hood (If it's worth it to you, $ ?)
    5. Blacked out tail lights (appearance)
    6. TRD Shift knob ($80)
    7. PRO Wheels ($900)
    8. PRO Grille (appearance, but let's say $500).

    Performance & Functional

    1. TRD Skid Plate ($400)
    2. TRD Air Intake ($300)
    3. PRO Suspension (all components) ($3,000)
    4. TRD Exhaust ($650)

I'm probably missing some things, but I think for most things, you could essentially make a premium OR into a PRO for around $6k USD. Minus the badging and strictly appearance things.

So, if you want all of that...PRO might be worth it.

Save your money you can always make it your own . My 2017 TRD off-road cost me $35k US and I made mine way better than a pro

This late in the year you might not even get a Pro in a 2023 model unless you can find a dealer that has an allocation unspoken for or has one on the lot. I would be tempted to wait and see what the 2024's look like and cost. As far as the value in it the only thing I really lusted after that the Pro had that wasn't available on the Off Road prem here in Canada is the LED headlamps, so for me the extra $$ wasn't really worth it.

The hybrid is not going to get a huge bump on mpg compared to the current V6. Look at the Tundra, it's what 2 mpg more with the hybrid in that. Don't buy into the hype! With that said, I was looking at getting another Pro, but for almost $60k with taxes, etc, I couldn't justify spending that for a Tacoma. Hell I bought my 2017 Pro for $44,000 back in the day, and that was high. I went with a lunar rock TRD DCOR with the manual this time around. The only other thing that could be a deciding factor is the sonic octane special color since it looks to be the only year that will most likely not carry over to other models next year.

Off Road is the best bang for the buck, right out of the box. Both the Pro & the O.R. come with Kevlar Highway tires, that are "adequate" for logging roads. You Could give the O.R. a 2" lift with Bilstein 5100s for under $1k.

The Pro does have nicer rims, and the scoop!

As far as waiting, I saved $4k buying mine, just as the new models were coming out. As for gas mileage, they will all suck regardless of the new engine or not.

Good luck, either way, you'll enjoy your new Taco.

Ya I think the Off Road Prem might be the better option.

I want the smaller truck and auto for convince but feels like I'll be giving up a lot to get it. Worse MPG, considerably less power, and since my ram is on Thuren suspension I'll also be giving that up but I'm sure I can get something similar for the Tacoma like Camburg?

The worse MPG has me thinking to wait for 24s. Hopefully the hybrid will be a fuel eco hybrid like in the Lexus rather then a horsepower hybrid like in the tundra.

You said you want AT so I’d go OffRoad. If you wanted MT, the pros (if you can find one) are closer to 50/50. The OffRoad MT’s are AC only in Canada as far as I’m aware, DC only here in the states.

I’d probably consider a trade, my ‘16 for your Ram, but I’m guessing you’re not at all interested in that.

    Pro pros: premium resale
Pro cons: price tag, especially if mods to suspension
OffRoad pros: every bit as good as a pro for less money, especially if doing a legit suspension, more color choices
OffRoad cons: Not as special / unique, MT DCSB N/A in Canada

If you're jumping from a Cummins powered truck you're going to miss the torque.....and fuel mileage (although the price of diesel vs gas would negate that).

I’m very happy with my 23 pro. When I was looking it was near impossible (may still be) to find a 6MT off-road with premium and technology packages. My 1st gen had cloth seats, soft touch interior was a must for waterfowl season / kids. I also wanted the OEM LED headlights. Finally 6MT. Add in solid suspension I don’t have to eff with from the factory, sounds good to me. Went down the fun route with my 1st gen, but realized I don’t wheel as hard as I think. Just trails to get me to hunting and fishing spots etc.

Sure I could have gone with clazzios and a wiring harness from a well respected member and pick up the OEM LEDs. Bilstein 5100s.. Then again, I knew what I wanted, I was OK with the premium price and went with it. You will hear a ton of opinions and suggestions. Some giving sage advice. However, get what YOU want that fits YOUR decision criteria and constraints. I love my truck for what I use it for.

Sounds like you should run and grab any TRD ORP or TRD Pro available for ‘23, or wait for the new ‘24. Idk, any taco purchase is a win.

Seriously speaking…. Buy what you want. They’re always in demand. I went ORP, no complaints. Living south of the boarder from you northerners, some options and packages can be finicky. For my spec, there’s nothing tech wise different from the Pro. Premium pack, adv technology, LEDs. TRD also allows selecting OEM LED’s. Don’t pass on that option if available. If that is only available to be selected in conjunction with the Pro, that’s makes it a much harder choice in my mind for you. ( haha there goes someone spending your money!)

Buy the pro if you have money to throw around and don’t care, if the special color calls to you or cause it’s there.

If you want the best gas mileage, it’s a no brainer to wait for the next gen, it will likely be better. But be prepared to wait and overpay. And will that end up saving you much in the long run? I’m sure I haven’t been very helpful, so, hello from down here again! And happy trucking!

Thinking 55k CAD so about 40,000 USD. Truck has 45,000 miles. It's a bighorn with the midnight, technology and convenience packages. Nice truck just getting tired of the manual transmission and the size of it.

Ya think I'm going to wait for the 24s. I'm in no rush and own my truck.
