I also recommend a dealer since the Tacoma trans is a sealed unit. Did mine last year before a long road trip to Moab (from So Cal) and the truck was at around 90k. Don’t remember how much I paid but have the receipts at home. It wasn’t cheap but peace of mind the dealer knows what they’re doing, more so than me or some valvoline shop.

The transmission is not more sealed than any other Toyota transmission. It, simply, does not have an external dip stick and Toyota claims it does not need to be flushed, unless it meets the Special Operating conditions - towing, off-roading, etc…;in which case, flush every 60K. The no-flushing part is BS; ATF should be drain/refill or flushed as all hydraulic fluid gather contaminants as they age.

Thanks, just messaged them for a quote. I have been going to "The Truck Shop" on Miramar Road for years. Good to look around.

I've got 240,000 miles on my 06 and have had the tranny serviced once, I believe around 60K. Other than some hesitation in the morning it seems fine. I do pull a car trailer a few times a year, so should I consider doing a full service on the transmission or leave well enough alone???

I got a recommendation on this forum for THE TRUX Shop on Miramar road (East by 805) for a tranny drain and refill. They quoted me less than $100. I've been going for years to The Truck Shop on Miramar Road by "Goldfingers". Thought I'd try someplace new?

Truck Shop on Miramar is good but pricy. For OEM style maintenance I’ve also had very good luck with Toyota Lexus Care (TLC) in Kearney Mesa. They just won’t do any “upgrades” all OEM replacement/maintenance. Better pricing than Truck Shop.

I used to go to the trux shop on Miramar, but it's too far away now. TLC Kearny Mesa has done work on my truck and is a great shop. I'm still wondering if there is any benefit to a complete drain, filter change with 240k miles or could that create new problems?

I just changed mine myself with a paperclip to put the truck in a/t temp check mode. Glad I did bc the dealer WAY overfilled(like 2+ quarts) the transmission like a bunch of idiots. If you can change your oil, you can change your trans fluid(maybe not a full flush, that's a bit more complicated)
