New 2023 TRD Tacoma owner. Engine oil question….I would like to use Mobile 1 0W-20 full synthetic….which type is best for my new engine??? Will be doing 5K intervals.

I am seeing 6 different options all of these are mobile 1 0W-20 full synthetic.

    - Extended performance
    - Extended performance high mileage
    - ESP X2
    - Advanced fuel economy
    - truck and suv
    - high mileage

    https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants...cts/motor-oils/mobil-0w-20-low-viscosity-oils

Practically, I imagine all of these are about the same and it really doesn’t matter. But I would like someone’s input that has some justification as to which offers the best protection.

    thank you

There was a time the 0-20 extended performance was a true group IV oil so that's what I buy, but who knows what it is currently. Probably hard to go wrong with any if you are going to throw out good oil at 5K miles.

It's Friday, so you're bound to get many different opinions.

As long as you change the oil and filter frequently and use the recommended viscosity it doesn't really matter. I prefer oem filters and Valvoline full synthetic 0w-20. Valvoline offers $5 back via a check or PayPal if you submit proof of receipt.

    https://valvolinecashback.com/

I stopped using Mobil 1 a few years ago. Their oil quality dropped imo and I had issues with their M1-107 canister filters after Mann-Hummel started manufacturing them. The thread diameter was the incorrect size and wouldn't thread onto my LS1 car. Ironically, the Napa Wix filters made by Mann-Hummel still fit my LS1 and seem to be of decent quality. I used Royal Purple the last two times for that car, but can't tell any different between RP and Valvoline synthetic. :notsure:

    Moving on to oil filter…

I prefer to use an OEM filter. Is the TRD oil filter (PTR43-00082) any better than the legacy filter (04152-YZZA1)??

Please correct me if I am wrong on those part numbers..thx!

I just used what the toyota dealer used....extended performance.
As far as filters, the same, just their regular ones. Just be sure when doing oil changes, you pre-fill that filter housing with oil before installing it. These engines don't like dry starts.

Follow the below equation and you will be fine. Enjoy your new truck brother!

Quality oil + quality filter x proper milaleage intervals = happy engine / happy owner!

Why do you claim mobil 1 has dropped in quality. Do have proof to back that statement up?

    Make sure to change your oil at 1,000, 2,500, 5,000, 7,500, 10,000, 11,250, 14,777, and 15,000 to ensure proper break-in.

I see you got that off cycle milage in there, that's good, have to keep it surprised. If you always do the same interval then it will see it coming

Just wanted to give you my experience on this. I inherited a 2010 Camry with about 300k miles on it. I did the same thing as you and thought Hmm which one should I use. Well with 300k it would make sense to use a "High Mileage" oil right??? Well that was very very very wrong. For the first time in my life I saw the oil light come on in the car. The car burned through this oil like crazy and I was low on oil cause it was all gone. And this was after maybe 1k-2k of mileage after the oil change.
Anyway, trying to make a long story shorter - from then on I have only used the "basic" oil (no high mileage, no additives, no special formula's, etc) and I have had no problems at all.

So based on my 1 data point - stick with the basic stuff and you will be good to go. I think the basic stuff is the "Advanced fuel economy" one.
    Hope that helps.
Oh, and I do stick with the Mobil 1 brand - as that is what you would get if you took the car to the Toyota dealers for oil changes (Toyota oil is basically Mobil 1)

Mobil 1 rebate program is on for 2023.
Even though Walmart is not in "terms and conditions" list, the online submission form accepts Walmart.
My Walmart purchase was approved for $20 rebate.

I believe all of those will meet the spec of GF6A, which is Toyota's requirement. That makes all of them perfectly fine for your application.

The link you gave provides a description of the intended use for each type. Just pick the one that describes your truck mileage, conditions of use, desires and whims.

It’s just not that hard. o_O

Everyone is going to do whatever floats their boat and their wallet. I do Amsoil Full Synthetic Signature Series and the TRD oil filters. Many on here would probably consider both overkill but engine is purring and I want to keep it like that as long as possible.
