How may miles between oil changes with the Mobil 1 synthetic? I bought the advanced full synthetic NOT the Extended Performance.

Do what the directions say in your manual or the product you bought.

I haven’t done any oil change since I just bought mine but this is what I plan to do.
    Dino - every 5k or if Mobil 1 - every 7.5k

FYI, ‘Yota doesn’t recognize oil changes in excess of 5K miles unless your vehicle recommends otherwise.

I still follow OEM recommendations, change Mobil1 every 5k miles & Toyota filter. I do wheel a bit so put me in the mildly hard driver group.

    And this

Toyota put the idiot light in our trucks and a lot of users will just assume 5000 for everything. That 5k Rec is for CONVENTIONAL.

Plenty of examples of high mileage trucks that had a diet of 10k + oci with a quality synthetic (cough qynla).

Do you short trip a lot? Severe service? If 5k with Mobil1 makes you feel better then do it.

But the truth is that ANY modern synthetic oil will go 10k in the 1gr-fe under standard service conditions with zero issues and a nice clean engine.

I like using Mobil1 for 7500 or Mobil1 ep for 10-12k. I try to keep a 1/3 buffer zone (because I can, and it’s not expensive) from the oils states/warranted capabilities.

I took Mobil1 UOAs out to 10 with zeros issues.

You’ll notice I didn’t make any recommendations or offer an opinion. I paraphrased Toyotas stance on me using synthetic in my vehicle.

Anyone serious about the matter would send samples to Blackstone to best guage their recommendations for oil change intervals in the absence of manufacturer recommendations. Don’t be surprised if you have warranty claim issues related to your oil.

Relax. I was AGREEING WITH YOU, which is why i said "this" in reference to your post. Toyota says 5k no matter what and doesn't provide any other guidance. They are also debuting apple carplay in the 2020 tacoma. 2020. Toyota isnt exactly known for taking novel or innovative steps. If they were the supra wouldn't have a european flat 6.

But I digress, we are talking second gens here, I'd say very few are still under warranty, and even so, they might TRY to say your mobil1 at 7500 was the cause of the issue, but that really doesn't fly anymore. Ask Hyundai how the aftermarket oilfilter debacle went for them.

    This is always good advice.

In deciding on an oil change interval, the two primary things to consider are oil life and filter life. The use of longer-life synthetic oil does little to extend filter life. For me, this means changing my OEM oil filter every 5K miles (on schedule, according to Toyota) and my Amsoil synthetic oil every 10K miles (early, according to Amsoil). Obviously, YMMV.

If you want to stretch your oil change intervals beyond factory recommendation, then you'll need to send a couple oil changes out for analysis to Blackstone Lab for $30. They'll measure the life of your oil and based on your wear trend, give you a mileage recommendation to stretch the interval. I don't think it's worth saving $25 on an oil change by stretching the oil change to 7.5K miles and potentially hurting a $9,000 engine unless you know you can with an oil analysis.

Based on my driving habits, climates, and a couple oil changes, I know I can stretch my Mobil 1 Full Synthetic with M1 Extended Performance Filter to 7000 miles. I still change it every 5K when I can, but if I'm in the middle of a trip or a busy season at work, I can push the interval a bit.

5k is a conservative and safe interval.

There are a couple of people here who change oil every 10k and oil filters every 5k (and topping off the oil to replace any that is lost in the filter replacement) and seem happy without having ever experienced an issue.

Really, change your oil depending on the stress you place on your engine. If you're constantly lugging heavy stuff around, towing things on a regular basis, or your driving style is best suited for a Formula 1 track, then change your oil more frequently as the oil will have experienced higher stress and temperatures than those in "normal" driving habits and environments.

There are numerous people here changing oil AND filter at 10k+. Myself included. Synthetic and a quality synthetic media filter (I use fram ultras) but mobil1/wixXp/etc. also work.

It's a 1GR-FE. Port injected dinosaur with late 90's tech and a 15 year proven track record of very, very few issues that can be attributed to oil/engine wear amongst the entire line. With a sample size that large, you get a nice clean distribution of varying maintenance regimes. The results? Run whatever you want because it doesn't matter.

I've been changing mine at 10K since new. That was 12 years and 195,000 miles ago. Lots of guys in the 400,000 mile range with that interval. From what I've read 10K is conservative. Some go 15K on synthetic. The guy with the 1.2 million mile Tacoma doesn't keep up with his miles, just changes once a month and it can vary between 8K to 10K. Works for him.

Change the oil at your convenience between 5000 to 7500 miles, which is what I do. Any mileage higher than that, and the engine will probably need oil from any that burns off - so its best to just change it rather than adding part of an $8 quart + time retrieving that quart from the store.

I get my oil tested at Blackstone labs and currently follow a 12,500 mile oci. I get whatever synthetic oil that is the cheapest. Brand of oil doesn't matter. Running walmart super tech currently.

Mobil 1 user since 1979. Generally 7,500 miles on the Tacoma and 5,000 on my TJ Rubicon. I use the plain old Mobil 1 5W-30 in the Tacoma and 10W-30 HM in the Jeep. But if I am towing or did a bunch of off roading in a dusty area, I will change sooner.

My Tacoma is about to hit 120,000 miles so I may switch to the extended performance or high mileage, undecided yet. Neither vehicle uses any oil (Rubicon at 80,000) and will run the full interval without any significant drop in oil level or any need to add oil.

Toyota recommends 5k for dino oil. It doesn't say not to use synthetic. Whether it's OK to use synthetic, follow the recommendation of the oil manufacturers who have their own engineers/scientists and have tested their oils for use in various engine configurations. If they say you can't use it, then don't.

BTW, for normal driving habits and environments, you can easily go 10K on synthetic oil and synthetic oil filters. Reduce mileage for severe service usage - off-roading, high speed driving, idling (cabs), towing, etc...
