Hey guys, I've read a ton of info online and on this site, but nobody really ever answered the exact question on whether or not it is ok to use Maxlife ATF when doing a drain and fill vs a full flush. I went to replace the tranny fluid screen and drain/fill my truck this weekend and read in the manual that I needed WS compliant fluid. I had just finished another vehicle and had leftover jug of maxlife ATF which at first glance reads right on the back meets or exceeds WS.

I did the drain, followed the refill procedure complete with jumper wire and up down left right select start B A combo to check the temp and everything went fine. Drove the truck around for a day and then last night went to throw out the jug and noticed that it said full synthetic on the bottle.

That led to a hopeless search for whether or not Toyota WS is synthetic and whether or not I should have mixed it.

Deep down I know the conservative response is, go buy 12 quarts of ATF and do the full flush of either maxlife or Toyota WS, but has anyone ever done just the drain and fill (3-4 qts) and mixed Maxlife with stock? I'm at about 45K miles and kind of want to make it to 60K before my conscience forces me to do the full flush, but if you have a convincing argument, I could go home and do it tonight =-)

    Thanks in advance!

I have done this every year on my truck. No issues here as I do this with all the families cars/trucks. I was hesitant to try the full on flush here since I was paranoid I'd run the pump dry in the trans.

if it is running fine now, leave it. it isn't like you put water in there...

next time just stick to Toyota WS to end the guesswork.

OP should be fine. I'd have no regrets.

Thanks guys, so far so good, I guess I was just looking for some confirmation from someone with more than the 15 miles i'd driven... Thanks for the replies.

I did a drain/refill with this stuff in my wife's 2010 Rav4, and a complete flush and AT filter using this stuff in our 2004 160k mi corolla. No issues with Valvoline Maxlife ATF (or mixing it in with Toyota fluid) at all.
