In my old chevy I would keep a length of chain link tension bar (galv steel) with some locking pliers in the truck because the proper tool was missing. It was the perfect size. Clamp the locking pliers to the bar and use it as a handle to turn.

Here is my concern. If you look for the GEN 1 Spare Tire Tool its very costly. If you look for the GEN 2 Spare Tire tool kit it matches the price you listed above. The tips all look the same but I am not sure if the diagram of the tips are the same. Will the GEN 2 fit in the GEN 1 socket. Why isn't the two universal online. Something is different.

I am thinking about this tool here.

Shouldn't be hard to make it electric. Could use a window motor and scrap metal.

Read the reviews on the Amazon listing, one of the first reviews is a 1st gen owner saying it worked for him. Toyota doesn't change things like that unless they have to. They're happy using 40 year old designs if people are still buying trucks.

    ROFLMAO.....

This is more likely a common assembly across several Toyota models. Doesn't make sense to design, build, inventory this assembly specific to a model or model years.

Did you not look under your own truck?

At that point my instruction (or anyone else's in the use of a makeshift tool) would've easily made sense.

I hope you're just trolling because looking under your truck would've been way too easy and obvious to do...

I think the OP is part of the cell phone generation. Needs everything laid out and handed to them.

I pulled the same parts out of an old Nissan Pathfinder that worked fine. You really need to just get under the truck and take a look at what you are dealing with, then go to a pick n pull or junkyard and find what you need. This is a great forum for help, BUT, you have to help yourself as well. If you are unwilling to do even the minimum to help yourself, why should we spend our time and effort finding these things for you?

Which you would think, yet their 3rd gen 4runner counterparts are using a much simpler winch that can be operated with a 3/8 extension. You could argue pickups don’t have this as it would be potentially easier to steal spares since you need to access the 4runner spare after opening the tailgate, but how hard is it as a thief to make your own tool or buy / steal a factory or aftermarket one?

I would keep a long handled ratchet or breaker bar and a socket in the truck instead of rely on an aftermarket lug nut wrench.

    Sorry,
I am at work right now. My truck is at home. I am asking questions so once I get home I will have all the information. Once I get home I will look under the truck. But now since I have a picture I can order the correct device (while I am at work) since I have a lot of good information. Thank you guys. It looks like the GEN 2 setup should work on my truck. I love the positive information. I did not want to purchase the kit GEN 1 tool kit I saw on ebay for over $100 just to lower a tire.
