Has anyone thought about or have experience with swapping out the side view mirrors of an '02 with another vehicle? Do you know of any that are close to a plug and play?
Any help into this endeavor would be a great help!

I installed electric 4runner mirrors on my 99 tacoma. Bolted right up. Little tight running the wires behind the door panel. The 3rd gen 4runner mirrors are a direct bolt up.

I have a 99 Taco and are looking at 97 4runner power mirrors to buy,so the swap will work?

99-02 4runner mirrors are the same shape as 01-04 Tacoma power mirrors with the same mounting locations.
ALMOST all 99-02 4runner mirrors are heated (99 was a transition year). You can verify this by making sure there are 5 wires in the wire harness instead of 3.

The 4runner mirror base (part that mounts to the door) is the same physical dimension as the 01-04 Tacoma mirrors. There are a couple differences:
4runner mirrors use bolts, Tacoma mirrors use studs
4runner mirrors have a retaining screw that cannot be used on Tacomas unless you modify your door
4runner mirrors have an alignment pin that cannot be used on Tacomas unless you modify your door (I just ground this down flat)
    99-02 4runner mirrors have a 6 pin connector, Tacoma mirrors have a 3 pin.
96-98 4runner mirror have a 3 pin connector (I believe this is the same as the Tacomas)

Do you know what years specifically will fit my 99 Tacoma? I seem to have all the wiring in the truck already and armrest stubbed out for switch, thanks again!

I would love the heating element for my 04 mirrors.

I believe the 96-98 4Runner mirrors could be plug and play since I think they use the same wiring connectors. The 99-02 mirrors use a different connector so you’d have to rewire it, but that’s not hard at all.

    Same.
My drivers mirror shakes in the housing and it’s starting to get annoying.
I’m in the NE and I feel like heated mirrors are necessary so I’m gonna try and snag some from the junkyard come spring. Hopefully find some seats and an overhead console too.

Has anyone here done enough research to know what year 4-Runner mirrors fit what year 1st Gen Tacomas? I don't want power mirrors w/heat and lights or anything fancy like that. Just a manual mirror. I'm just tried of my mirror being bumped by someone or having to readjust it after the carwash.

The non heated electric ones can be installed and you just manually push the mirrors into adjustment

Agreed. I installed power mirrors on my 2000 Tacoma(w/o power mirrors). I manually push the mirrors to adjust, not being able to adjust them with a switch isn't a big deal because once I have them adjusted, I never move them. Having said that, I do think it's cool when folks install the controls to make it work.
