BamaToy1997: This builder on Expo made a new frame with extended tongue and mounted the tub with tabs. Turned out very nice.

They are hard to come by in ANY neck of the woods! lol.

Looks similar to what I plan to do. I have looked at a lot of builds on Expo. Some VERY impressive designs.

I found mine by searching Craigslist EVERY day. I checked every city area within a 2 hour drive each day. Took me about 2 months to find one that was worth the asking price.

That sounds like a good plan! I'll try that! Thus far all I have found in the local classifieds are a couple of m105a2

With what I have read, the M105 really weighs too much for the 1st gen. And that is empty. Start adding a RTT and some gear, and you will quickly have an expedition trailer that weighs 2500 lbs.

I had considered one. I figured a lot of weight dropping and an axle swap and it would be more realistic. But I would really prefer something smaller

The big problem is I want an off-road capable trailer and I. Think for that purpose the m105 is pretty much out. How is the M-416 off-road?

Why not find a cheap M101A1 or A2 swap the axle out for a six lug with electric brakes? You could section the tub or just start with the frame. The frames on these are stout. 1350 pounds dry weight With a new coupler axle and sectioning you could be well under 1000 pounds.

I took the surge lunette off mine and went with a channel hitch.

Wow, yours looks great man! Nice work! I figured I could shed some weight pretty easily, I just dont know if it would be worth it. I did some craigslist surfing last night, and from what I've seen in my area i can get ahold of an M416 for about the same as an M101. But I guess what it comes down to is what kind of deal I can get on one

Both the M105 and M416 are great off-road trailers.

Because while the M101 weighs in at around 1350 lbs, an M416 weights in at a petite 450 lbs. That is almost a full 1000 lb difference empty.

Awesome! Thanks for your info, I appreciate it! Out of curiosity, what style of hitch do you prefer for off road/street use?

I still like the military lunette. However I have seen several with the new style hitch that is super moveable. The name escapes me, but I am sure someone will speak up.
