My 2018 SR5 is a lease with the ToyotaCare package. At my last service, the tech told me that my odometer is recording a different mileage than the "computer" by approx 150 miles. Not a big deal but I still have another 1.5 years on the lease. Could the problem ie: discrepancy grow worse and eventually add up to alot and falsely push the mileage over the allotment? The tech didnt seem concerned and said that they'd "keep an eye on it". Not sure what to do.

Did you upsize your tires? I'm not sure how the odometer and the computer would get different readings...

Ultimately, I wouldn't sweat it. Even if the computer says your over, I'd argue that the odometer is king... how can you know the mileage on the ECU, as the operator? No way they could hold you to that.

Don't neglect the fact that the majority of Techs are full of shit

There’s another recent thread in here where the A trip meter ended up being higher than the odometer.

    Mr. Bert,
Thank you for the reply, other members as well. Is there a way that I can see what they see for myself? The good part of ToyotaCare is that I can take the truck to any dealership and get a 2nd opinion, or 3 or 10, but with COVID....I really would prefer to not do that. Thank you again

I wouldn't worry about it. When you buy a car do you ask how many miles are on it then ask again for the computer miles? No. Only thing that matter is what the number on the dash says.

I totally hear what you're saying Mr. Edge, and I definitely agree. I guess it all boils down to the fact that the truck is a lease and any mileage issues could give me problems

What's a mile over cost ya? 15-20 cents? Really have to go way way over to hurt bad. At 20 cents a mile it's only 200 bucks a thousand.

I'd have asked him how it was possible? I'd argue it too on principle alone.

If everything is stock as you said... I'd take it back and tell the tech to fix it... Clearly the ODO is defective and it should be covered under warranty. At the very least, this will get them to record the issue. When it comes time to return the lease, you'll have it in writing that you asked Toyota to fix the discrepancy. It would be ridiculous for them to hold you to some invisible mileage.

Also... I highly suspect the tech is full of shit. So it would be funny to see them try to fix a non-existent problem.

Sure but how are you supposed to know the "miles on the ecu". Are you supposed to have your own copy of techstream? No. You've been watching the dash odo just like everyone else ever in the history of cars. It wont be an issue.

Nobody knows for sure whether or not mileage is even stored in the ECU for this truck and most every other vehicle out there. Some insist "yes", others insist "no"...its even debated here on this site by nothing more than self proclaimed driveway wrenchers. If you dont know...just say so people...seriously. Mileage is stored inside an EEPROM chip inside the cluster. Fact. Outside of that...none of you know. Also a fact. Thanks anyway

Mileage is stored in the dash cluster.
Have had mine replaced by Toyota and they needed to have it programmed with the current mileage at the factory before it was sent to the dealer. They kept the truck to make suer it said the same number. Odometer fraud carries big time issues.
Didn't see where you actually asked this question. You just seemed worried about something any dealership worth a shit wouldn't push you on and every lawyer would love to have as a case. Relax, again it won't be an issue.

Most likely you have Firestone destinations on that truck at 245/70/16
The or's come with the Goodyear kevlar or toyos I think and they are 265/70/16
Sports come with a 17 inch wheel, not sure what tire and the limiteds are on 18's again, not sure what size tire. The only way to see what the ecu is seeing is through tech stream I believe

FINAL UPDATE: It cost me $300 but I had a very high-end, well known and respected mechanic inspect the truck and the finding was this. The truck is a "package" with some type of special tires and was calibrated as such. At some point (the fingers are pointing all over the place), those tires were swapped out and the truck was never recalibrated. So there ya go. Thank you all. Stay Safe.

300 bucks, screw that, yota would be giving me that money back. I would also be pissed that I did not get what was on paper. But did you know what you were supposed to get? What does the window sticker say?

You can't recalibrate the cluster for larger tires without an add on module.

While i haven't had my first service yet. I've noticed something strange that the odo reading on my 2020 sr5 reads fast compared to what my gen1 tundra use to. I knew for a fact the tundra odo was dead-on for a measured mile. This tacoma reads nearly a tenth of a mile more over the same distance. Starting to wonder if my fuel economy is even accurate.
