In the end, Toyota sells tons of these trucks, so i would imagine the author is in the minority.

The new F150 has eliminated most of the reasons for a mid-size truck, meaning fuel economy and performance.

Curious article and I get what they are saying but like most here I would have to disagree. I downsized from an F-250 for multiple reasons besides that its easier to park. Full size trucks are great for towing and hauling and if you aren't doing either of those then you are basically wasting the vehicles utility. I purchase vehicles based on the value of their utility for my intended purposes. You don't need a full size truck to haul mulch, pick up a new washing machine or lawnmower, haul your mountain bike or dirt bike, etc. The Ford F-150 has a 1500+ pound payload capacity, most people don't need that.

MPGs as a measurement is moot in my opinion because unless the truck or vehicle makes double or triple the mpg it doesn't really matter. I'll compare my combined mileage to the highway mpg (24) of the Ford Ecoboost to make my point despite it combines for only 20
If I drive 15,000 miles a year at 19.2 mpgs (combined) on my truck at $2.10 a gallon, that's 1640.10 a year of $137 a month on gas. The Ford is $1312.50 or $109/month. I can afford the $30 difference but the reality is that it will cost the same as the average mpg is a lot less.

    Sources. Fuelly and Fueleconomy.gov

What people also fail to realize is the mid-size truck of today was the same size as the full size trucks of yesterday. a Half ton truck years ago was truley a half ton truck, now those same half-ton trucks are almost 1-ton trucks today.

Let me list reasons why I bought my mid size truck.

    1. Carry my toys - longboard, bikes, SUP and friends.
    2. Carry shit I have to install - trees, flooring, tables, pipes, rocks,
    3. Carry stuff for car camping -
    4. Carry the authors mom back to my cave (oh no wait for that I need a full size)

Reasons that were not a factor for my decision

    1. Buying a bigger truck cause the size to price ratio seems better.
    2. Buying a bigger truck cause the mpg to price ratio seems better.
    3. Buying a bigger truck cause I can carry more shit than I need (or have).
    4. Buying a bigger truck cause some author just stepped into the Super Size Me zone.

No sir. I'll point out I still bought the Tacoma. That doesn't mean the competition isn't bringing a good product to the market.

1st gens fit perfectly in our narrow trails here in WA. It's just that NO ONE makes trucks that size anymore unfortunately and I didn't want to pay 14k for a decent condition 1st gen.

I parked next to an access cab 1st gen tundra the other day and were the same width and length.

I liked that the tailgate on my '96 Mazda B2300 was less than 3' off the ground. So easy to load stuff. Would like to see compact trucks make a comeback. I'm not a contractor. So, it was all I really needed.

If you don't need a full size truck why get one. Looking for parking spaces sucks and good luck parking in the garage. Parking another vehicle along with it and trying to get out is almost impossible. For daily driving and not needing to haul much, the mid-size is perfect. I had an F-150 extended cab and hated it as a daily driver. Forget parking because it absolutely sucked. At the end it s what you like since you make the payment.
