Here is the pics of the E next to the SL
    285/70r17.

The other tire I was looking at was the Cooper Rugged Trek. Maybe that would have been the better balance for me??

but I’ve got 2 sets of tires and out $2600 so I’m not trying a 3rd set.

The Legend also looks like a good option. All comes down to a persons need.

Hopefully all my rambling with help others give a more formed decision.

Thanks for the follow up photo thread, this definitely helps out lots of folks in similar situated setups/tire driving needs.

The only tire I know of that splits the difference between SL and E is the GY Duratracs.

I think there is a nitto tire that comes in d load. But that's the only other one I know of. We need more c loads

Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
Sacrificing 3 to 3.5 mpg for an AT tire without going bigger seems ridiculous. Think I'd rather carry around 2 SL spares than take that hit. But I'm not crawling up 20 degree rock faces so <shrug> .

    Thanks for you input.

So the tire sidewall depth is different depending the load? Good to know…

In my case, that would be ok because as I said on my first post, I daily drive my taco so no need of that extra side wall depth…

i will be probably going for same size sl tire on my taco. So I don’t get worse mileage than actual oem tires…

If you are mostly DD so far these ride really smooth. I would say 100% get the SL. Hopefully we get some snow and other conditions in the next week or so. I ran the E rated in a 4" snow we got and they did well. The SL is a softer compound also so I expect them to do even better in typical driving situations .

Thats kinda what happened to me really never got the answers I was looking for exactly with the SL. I ran out of funds after buying 2 sets of A/T to buy the legends to compare all 3. Wish I had tons of disposable funds I would love to compare more stuff. LOL

As of now the website lists most all the Legends are showing E rated. They are supposed to be a smoother tread design, but depending which size you want may or may not be heavier than the A/T.

as for the SL, I have only made a few trips to town and close to home but they ride very well on my truck. I am probably being over critical and these SL as they will probably be fine for 80--90% of us. My main thing was to try and help others with the difference. And like you all wish there was a middle ground..

Thing I noticed is the E has deeper tread but the outer lug has a wider gap on the SL if you notice the pics.

Nice to know there's another C load option out there. I'm guessing Goodyear is targeting Tacoma owners with having Goodyear Duratracs, Cooper AT3's and now these tires in C load 265 75 R16's

Edit - targeting Tacoma owners w/ 16" rims

The cooper rugged trek was another tire that had peaked my curiosity. It E rated but their 285/70r17 lists at 58lbs so would have been very similar weight to the 275/70r17 Falken I took off the truck that were C load range and weighed 57lbs.

I can personally vouch for the MT ATZ p3s, I run them in 285s they are great for anything, we had a good dusting this winter here in the high desert. They did well on ice, sleep, snow. They are a even better when aired down to 10PSI as well. I wish they made a 255 "skinny" size for 17 inch wheels. MT tires are def worth it IMO.

As far as the Baja Boss A/T they were a recommendation from a buddy. But so far so good. I got them in 295/70/17. This is my DD so I needed a compromise hence the A/T. They’re pretty meaty so I love how they look. As far as performance on road, they’re super quiet. Handles fire roads and snow with easily, but I haven’t really pushed it on anything ridiculously technical.

Downside, they are pretty damn heavy at 65lbs. My tuck was OVtuned prior and able to squeeze 20mpgs. That dropped to 13.6mpgs as soon as I lifted and slapped on the wheels and tires. Got re-geared yesterday with 5.29 to prepare for 35’s and it jumped up to 15ish mpgs on the way home after a 2hr drive. Hoping for better once I fill up again.

    hope this help OP.
