Hey guys. I'm soon to purchase new tires and noticed on tire rack that the listed rim width for the Michelin defender is 8" for the 265-70-16 and 7.5" for the 265-75-16. What does this difference mean? Do you know what the width of the stock alloys are? Hoping someone can shed light on this for me.

that is the "recommended" rim width.

i wanna say stock rims are 7 or 7.5in wide. it would make sense that the smaller side wall of the 70series would recommend a wider rim vs the slightly taller sidewall of the 75

You are going to be fine throwing either tire on a stock rim.

Accepted rim sizes listed, that size is what they used for the tire listed.

I believe both 16" OEM wheels are 16x7.

To any of you that responded... So, if that 265-70 tire that measured 30.6" dia on the 8" rim was installed on a 7" rim, would it end up being slightly taller than the 30.6" dia that is listed? (Theoretically or real-world). And slightly shorter on a 9" wide rim?

Thanks for pointing out the accepted rim sizes- I missed that.

Stock 2nd gen rims are 7".

I put Michelin LTX M/S 2's (Defenders replaced these) on the 7" wheels. I then put Method NV's on that are 8" wide. Same tires, different wheel. Works great. 265/70/16.

@harpolith Here are a couple comparison photos of my Truck with the Michelin LTX M/S 2's on factory and aftermarket rims. 265/70/16

    Method Rims 16x8"

    Stock Rims 16x7"

Didn't really make much difference. Except that my 8" wheels stick out wider than the factory 7" ones. So I like how that looks better personally.

The Defender tires, as I understand, IS the Michelin LTX M/S 2 with a newer/different tread compound. Otherwise basically the same tread pattern.

Very cool. Hey, thanks for the pics. I've read quite a bit about the defenders- they're rolling out the different sizes over a period of months. Sounds like the MS2's will eventually go away. Disappointed to hear that, but I have a feeling the defender will be all the tire that the MS2's were. If we're lucky, maybe a little better, although I find that hard to believe! I've loved my MS2's.

This is correct. I verified at my Toyota dealership yesterday. They are 16x7.

Looks great. I've been thinking about going with a black grille surround on my '14 pyrite mica. Nice to see an example. I Need some new tires but it's gonna be a couple years before I can lift. Can't wait!

Mine is a chrome grille surround with black Plastidip. Been through several car washes, rain, snow, sun, etc. :) Some day I'll probably buy an aftermarket grille from @HomerTaco . I keep spending money on other crap though. lol To tide me over I did this with a can of Krylon White :) The Toyota Emblem has two clips on the back and pops right off.

I figured maybe that was dip. I somewhat recently got the weathertech bug deflector. Really like the way it changed the look of the front end. I think it would look awesome on your truck with all that black on the front end! Looks great already, but hey, you need to spend a little more money!

LOL! I'm a bit broke right now... I've got more black stuff coming for the front end. :yay: Got a 8-10 week wait time for it though. :bored:
Gonna do the Pelfreybilt plate bumper mod. I think they have the coolest bumpers.

Like this one - but minus the lights:
