Michelin LTX A/T 2 on my new 2017?

Working on a trading up to a 2017 TRD OR but my current 2011 has a year old Michelin LTX A/T 2 tires on it that I really love and are 265/75/16 . My question is, should I negotiate to have my LTX tires put on the new truck and sell (or swap) the stock tires? I'd like an opinion which tire is better and will give me longer wear. To me the stock tires will wear faster than my year old LTX AT's.

If you have the old tires put on your new truck, and you sell the new tires, what tires are going to be on your trade-in? Or do you mean just swap the tires?

Well I assume just swap... so you are saying my LTX A/T are better than stock? I should add both my old and new truck are TRD OR 4x4. I omitted that ...

How did you extrapolate that from what I wrote? I have no clue which tires are better. I've never even heard of LTX tires. I was just trying to figure out exactly what you were asking.

I was literally asking if my Michelin LTX A/T 2 tires are better than the stock tires on TRD Off Road. My dealer said they can put them on and then give me the stock tires to sell.

But then what tires will go on your trade-in?

It all depends on what the new one has. Some new already have the michelins but if the new tires are not as good as what you have just work the exchange into the deal. I did that when I bought my 09 and it worked out fine.

I contemplated the same question. I loved my "pizza cutters" (lt235/85r16 - Cooper AT/W). I, in the end, decided to a) trust/try what Toyota engineers(or accountants) selected, and b) take the newer tires. I gave up winter rated tires and a size I really believe in and a lt tire in favor of new rubber and Kevlar. When it comes time to replace these shoes I will have another data point to make a best choice, and I differed my expense a year ('cause all tires wear out and you'll get the "honor" of replacing them before your note is paid off.)
Your Michelins are great tires and tempting to keep,... but keep the new tires.

Thanks for the reply. I confirmed the tires on the new rig are Goodyear Wrangler. I don't know enough about Goodyear Wranglers to know if I should keep or swap. I really love my Michelins and like the way they fill the wheel well.

Lots of bad reviews about the stock Goodyears on TW. I'd keep the Michelins.

I've seen quite a few reviews here that say the Goodyear Wrangler Kevlars on the OR are good tires. I like mine, but I'll let you know in a couple of years when I have 30k miles on them.

I would keep the Goodyears and say goodbye to your 2011 and not look back. I had the same Michelins on my 2013. Great tires but don't lose sleep over it.

Here's a decent photo of the tire you are getting.

I had the Michelin LTX AT2s on my second gen (2011 TRD Sport Long Bed) and have the GYs on my 2017 Off-Road and what is better depends on how you intend to use the truck. The Michelins were the tire to have for the second gens that had driveline vibration issues like mine did because it helped a lot with that due to the fact that the Michelins are the only tire that I know of made from a single piece mold, meaning they are not put together in sections. I have experienced zero vibration issues on my new third gen and I like the tread of the GYs better for the OR. They also have a little more aggressive tread to them and are a smoother riding tire than the Michelins. Michelin makes great tires but they are generally known as a stiffer tire. I don't think there is enough of a difference to change the tires out and risk having a dealer screw up your new rims. I may be in the minority here but I really like my Off-Road rims and wouldn't want to chance getting them screwed up for a tire that is not as aggressive and that likely won't add anything to the truck. The only difference is that you have a 265/75 whereas the stock tires are a bit shorter at 265/70. I'm changing out my tires to 265/75 but only because I'm going to a much more aggressive tire. I hope this helps.

I ran the ltx at 2's on my Chevy 2500 that I had before buying my 2016 OR. I thought they were great. I've always been a fan of Michelin and have used them for several years on several vehicles.

As for the stock Goodyears on my Tacoma, I've put almost 20,000 miles on them and they have performed better than I would have imagined. They're quiet, they ride well, and they have worn well too.

In the future I'll replace with a more aggressive at tire. But I wouldnt have any qualms at all about running the wranglers again. My opinion would be not to worry about the hassle of changing out the tires and give the Wranglers a shot.

That does look good and that's the same color I'm working with my dealer on. Did you put a leveling kit on on your ride?

Nope. Totally stock and staying that way. Not changing the tires either. You are seeing an optical illusion. Camera angle, crop, lighting, and parking spot slight incline. Here are a few more shots taken 50 minutes earlier when the sun was higher in the sky.

Actually, @smitty99 likes them quite a bit.

He might complain about his truck a lot, but his complaints are never about the OEM tires.

I was pleasantly surprised with mine but I have always had great service out of GY tires. I think you can have issues out of any of them because they are producing at max capacity to meet demands but mine have been great so far.
