Well...the Michelin LTX M/S on my 2011 AC 4wd have aged out but have some tread left.

In looking at Sam's Club sizing they have both tires at 115T, load range and speed rating in the 265/70R17 size for my 17" Sport Rims I bought used.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the two tires? From what I read, the treadwear is identical but it appears the A/S has thinner sidewalls for a cushier ride.

Does anyone have either better knowledge or experience between the two?

I believe the x lt is made exclusively for Costco / Sams club, but it's more or less the same tire.

thank you, that is what I am finding out. Since the cost difference at Sam's is about $7 dollars a tire, I am leaning towards the defender. I am not big on wholesale clubs branded products.

@hetkind the difference is in the name. LTX M/S is Mud and Snow rated. It has full depth tread sipes through out the tire tread giving you a better biting edge for traction in snow. The A/S is All Season rated and does average in all seasons but not so much for snow. I have the LTX M/S and it is a solid tire.

Actually, in Michelin speak, M/S is multisurface, and I assume A/S is all surface, and yes, the Defender LTX m/s is a very solid tire

I ordered a set of Michelin Defender LTX M/S, 265/70-17 from my local tire shop, $300 less than Discount Tire, the national chain, in town.

    thanks for all the discussion.

Next will be a new set of winter tires come fall, thinking about a set of studded duramax.

@hetkind if you were wanting to take advantage of the number of national locations, we have a Low Price Promise. We would adjust accordingly if a competitor has a lower price. Might be worth your while to verify through the forum.

Thank you for checking in with me. We use Discount Tires since they are five minutes from my wife's office and the quality of work and service is very good. We have no complaints. Their price on the tires is about the same. What is different, Discount Tires managed to add $75 in add-on per tire, above my local tire shop, which worked out to be 30% of the total bill.

However, we will continue to use them as needed, particularly on my wife's car, but for this set of tires, I am giving the work to my local shop since I also want them to stay in business.

Again, thank you for supporting the forum, and I will give Discount Tire the opportunity to price my next set of winter tires, I am looking at the Goodyear Wrangler Duramax, studable in the LT265/75-R16. After running numerous sets of Firestone Winterforce tires, I would like a more aggressive tread since I am seeing more mud than in previous years.
