We have a FWD RAV4 in need of tires soon.

Not familiar with this model of Michelin, but it looks interesting. Anyone with any first hand experience they can share?

Currently on sale at Costco through 10/24. $70 off the same item at TireRack and free install/lifetime balance/rotation/nitrogen/road hazard warranty. Saves about another $180 over TireRack, plus the lifetime balance/rotation value (if you care)

I'm a Tire Rack fan, but this will likely be too good to pass up.

Tread pattern reminds me of Toyo's I ran as street tires on my autox car back in the day. They were fantastic in the wet.

Get the Michelin Defenders if you can. I am on my 3rd set on a camry. I also have a brand new set on my Tacoma. They really perform well esp on rain water running over interstates at high speeds. Cant repot about the tacoma only have a few hundred miles on them. But I can say they feel better than the stock toyos.

Previously had them on a Toyota Camry for about 2 years. Performed great in rain, snow, and slush. I don’t remember what it had before those but they were a massive improvement. Those treads kicked out the rain and slush well to hold the road.

So we sell them by the butt load.

My theory is they are intended for France/Germany/UK

They are suited for cold wet climates. So PNW or NE

I wouldn't buy these for anywhere with snow or hot summers.

Not sure his reasoning. My experience they gave me a lot of confidence with snow and rain because of the handling. Its got the 3 peak symbol, and the handling didn’t scare me to take that FWD out in a few inches of snow or slush. The tires before always made the car feel helpless in the winter, to the point I didn’t feel safe driving in really crappy weather.

The guy at Costco asked me what I think when getting tires rotated. He mentioned several people had complained they wore out earlier than expected. My response, it’s softer compound that sticks to the road, and the treads clear out rain and slush making a noticeable difference in hydroplaning. Even if they wear out in 3-4 years I’m putting the same thing back on.

I sold the car after 2.5 years, but I would say they were tracking for 3 great years, and guessing that maybe after 4th year might want to replace to get full tread depth back. I think it’s strength is that depth and massive evacuation channels to the side that helped it dig down and push crap out so it could touch the road. I was running about 10k per year.

I’m in the same boat there…. Would rather have great handling and ok life than the other way around

That makes ZERO sense considering they are listed as all season tire and Michelin specifically calls out wet and dry traction. :notsure::notsure::notsure:

    Yep.

Even TireRack testing has them in the top 3 of a true all season in the grand touring class. No single rating point under 9.x

It’s sold as an all weather tire in my region.

Have them on the wife's Forester. We're 7k miles now. Long road trip from Phoenix to Massachusetts, they ride nice, very quiet, good when driving through the rain in WV, VA, & PA 3-4 weeks ago. Was able to use them over Lizard Head Pass Oct 16(ish) during the snow in the San Juans. Really liked them there, but don't have any others to compare in the Forester. Had General RT43 on prior Sorento, was quite good and quiet in the snow and dry. I purchased them based on the Consumer Reports recommendation, and so far, they will be the only tire brand/model I ever run on the Forester.

I have Michelin Defender LTX's on my 2002 Tacoma, love the life, they worked great in the greasy mud over hard pack in southern UT and super quiet on the 101 and 17 in Phx as my daily driver. I have 65k on them now. I guess I'm a Michelin fan now.

It's difficult to find something I can be driving at 80F deg during the week, then head north to Flagstaff and go skiing on a winter weekend, but the Defender hasn't let me down, and hopefully the CC2 will be even better.

I put a set on our Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor in July. They were great in the wet summer monsoons here in Northern AZ. I'm looking forward to seeing how they perform in the snow.

The last set of tires on the same car were Pirellis P-Zero All Seasons. They were so bad in the snow that the car was undriveable; the tiniest bit of snow was like slicks on wet clay. Rain performance was only mediocre.
