Did your truck not come with the oil filter housing that was designed for it?

I think OP is looking to replace the plastic housing with an identical metal one to avoid possible issues

Keep in mind it isn't a drop-in replacement. You need to swap over the correct height center tube from your old housing.

Use plenty of oil to lubricate the threads as aluminum-on-aluminum will gall, which is the reason Toyota switched to plastic in the first place.

Except for alum vs composite, it appears the 3.5 engines use the same oil canister. Our 07 ES350 Lexus has alum, but our 18 RX350 had composite, it now has an alum - part # listed above. Make sure you get from a dealer to ensure it is oem. I would not count on the quality of china-made canisters. Even if the oem canister is china made, quality control will be higher. Our RX also has composite valve covers, not a fan of that but it is what it is.

I switched to the aluminum and then back to the composite. The composite cools down more quickly after the engine stops running. I see no problems the aluminum solves. Save your money.

You should not have any issues with the composite if it’s installed correctly. The problem is, that a lot of people crank the housing on too tight.

The way the housing is designed, it doesn’t seal any better the tighter you get it. Snug is good enough.

There is a general mistrust in the durability of composite vs alum. As to heat dissipation, it could be that composite insulates better, thus it feels cooler to the touch on the outside. For example, I know glass fibre reinforced plastics have significantly lower thermal conductivity but better insulation properties over alum. I don't know what materials are used in Toyota filter canisters but I think it has to do more with cost production than heat dissipation. There was mention of galling, our ES350 with 290K and an oem alum housing has had no galling. It could be that the motor oil residue on the threads helps prevent galling. Point is, I’ve never lubed the threads.

There is no issues with the composite one, unless you have a brain dead mechanic with the wrong tools doing the job.

lol I know....but the plastic housings that come stock work just fine. It's the morons that don't use the correct tools that create the "issues".

How is your response helpful? I'm just saying that there is nothing wrong with the OEM plastic housing.

You're telling the OP to keep his truck stock. We don't do that here :smack:

What is wrong with the center tube? I have this part with two part #'s on the box label. #15620-31060 as well as 15643-31050 and all looks good.

^If the center tube is the same height as the original one in your truck, then all is good. IIRC the center tube in the aluminum housing was a different height.

only if you buy a generic/Amazon metal cannister, and not the oem. I swapped mine with oem but, I am not near the garage to provide an exact fit part number I used on my 2019 sport 3.5 l V6.
