2016 Tacoma comes with the McGard 046155 Key to remove the wheel locks.

I have broken two of these and the most recent was brand new. I don't even torque these wheel locks unlike the regular wheel nuts. Just tight enough with a 1/2 inch drive.

I showed the most recent damaged one to the local Toyota dealership mechanics and they said these are a piece of garbage with soft metal. They have a professional set of key sockets to remove the wheel locks. Toyota supplies them but for their own use.

Any one know where you can get a 046155 Key that is NOT manufactured in China? It needs to be a high quality steel. I am in Canada also.

    Thanks,

    Bob

not torqueing to spec and using an impact is most likely the problem, that said those things are just a PITA for the owner- a shop, thief, or monkey can bypass them in seconds.

I personally gave up on wheel locks long ago. They are too simple to defeat if someone really wants your wheels or tires.

    Just another option.

^^ This. When I got my 4Runner pro wheels I just bought new lug nuts and didn't bother with a wheel lock. I just made sure I had enough accessory coverage on my insurance policy to cover them and had them specifically listed. Too much of a pain in the ass to deal with the wheel lock.

Both my Toyota and Jeep oem lock sets (rebranded Mcgard say made in USA on the packages) Almost all of their products are made in the USA.

Are you ordering replacement keys from McGard?

No issues here on either vehicles. When removing the keys I make sure to apply pressure into key so that it maintains full contact with the lug pattern while removing.
