Last time I was in NZ, lots of "blokes" were running the Maxxis RAZR MTs and my buddy (and the reason for my frequent visits) told me about the upcoming RAZR AT.

It's now listed on the US website. It's a cool looking tire. But I also noticed that the SL version comes with a 3-peak snow rating, a 60k warranty (50k for other Load Ranges) but most notably, a 265/70-16 weigh in at a lithe 38lbs.

The US Website claims that these are available at Les Schwab.

I run Maxxis on my mountain bikes, but have never run them on a truck - they are hugely popular in NZ and Aus. I can't seem to find any information on pricing to know if they'd be worth a consider.

Huh, interesting. Nice they come in C load. They look good and the snow rating is nice for my neck of the woods.

I emailed Maxxis about this tire as none of the listed dealers that I called seemed to know anything about this tire, they said basically, they will begin offering the AT811 to dealers within the coming months. I've been doing some reading on this tire as it's pretty popular in Australia and NZ and the (limited) consensus is people down unda' like them better than BFG, and go on about how quiet they are. I'm still pretty interested to see how much they'll cost and all that.

Good to know, I was just checking to see if these were listed at Discount Tire yet but they are not.

According to the Maxxis site, Les Schwab is listed as a retailer.

They work way better. The Assegai is the grippiest front tire I've ever run and the dissector rolls a lot faster but doesn't compromise much on grip, the way the aggressor does.

Not if you run a 16" or 17" rim. E only, unless you want to run a 37" tire, then you can get a D rating.

Yeah, I noticed that later. Was too good to be true but not a deal breaker I guess.

I'm intrigued by the SL - very few knobbly tires weigh less than 50 lbs.

I'm going to zombie this thread because i'm very curious about this tire. As an MTB guy, Maxxis rules the roost. Plus these things look great.

Zombie-ing as well... those tires are good looking. They look new-school like Nittos do, but I like them more.

But I'm here for the MTB stuff... I'm gonna try the Dissector/Assegai set-up after I blow through the stock Specialized Butcher/Eliminator. Specialized stepped up their game on tires with the new compounds though.

In the past I was fond of the WTB offerings because the sidewalls felt indestructible. I was running like 16PSI in them without burping. Bad compounds though. Even their stickiest.

I don't want to go DHRII/DHF like everyone else and I've heard good things about the Dissectors rolling resistance making it a great back tire.

I run the Assegai/Dissector with Cush Core's. It's a game changer. The Dissector roll's about as fast as the Aggressor, but much, much, much more grip, especially when heeled over. Whats interesting on my Dissector, which I ran all last summer, is that by the end of the season, all the corner lugs were about 50-70% torn off. The center lugs held up, but the wear occurred on the corners.

As far as the Assegai - well, it's the greatest front tire in the world. We had a bonkers dry summer out here in Utah. Total fesh-fesh (moon-dust) everywhere. That front tire saved me from so many front end tucks, I lost count. What an amazing tire.

Paired with the Cush-Cores (I have carbon wheels) I run about 18/20 psi and I bomb rock gardens with reckless abandon. Cush Cores made riding so much more fun in about the same way that Dropper Posts did. Once you start using them, you'll wonder how you rode for so long without them.

I'm a bit worried about going Assegai/Dissector because of the hard-pack and loose over I typically ride. A lot of clay soils in PA and they get solid in the summer.

I'd switch to Cush-Cores if I had carbon wheels. If I damage my current wheelset I might switch to carbon, but hasn't been needed yet.
