Hello guys, I'm brand new to long travel suspension and had a question. I just ordered Icon coilovers ET w/ adjusters. I plan on running them with a Total Chaos +3.5 kit and maxtrac spindles. Is there any reason maxtrac spindles won't work? Has any one tried it? Thanks in advance, pic for attention. Truck is at 7" lift now, gonna drop the front down to 6"

**Update: got my coilovers swapped out for TC spec Icon LT coilovers. Also I've been assured that the TC race kit works with maxtrac's requiring no modification, but TC standard kit would require spacers.

If you use the standard total chaos +3.5 kit you'll need two small spacers for each spindle to account for the thinner uniball adapter. Whoever installs your kit could probably whip a few up for you.

If you run the +3.5 race kit it uses a modified oem ball joint mount so it will bolt right up.

I would double check on the Coilovers to make sure they are the right length for that set up/ combo.

May want to make sure. I think Baja kits might be the only guys out there that can use extended travel coilovers on their LT kits. I have the tc 3.5 race kit on mine and they needed dedicated LT King coilovers over my stock extended travel kings that I had before going LT.

Got ahold of Brian at Icon, those shocks won't work, but I've got the shocks I need on order (Total Chaos spec LT shocks). Anybody know what the lead time is on getting shocks built like this? Also is there any reason these Total Chaos coilovers won't work with dirt king or Camburg?

TC is different from Camburg by how the top hat of the coilovers are. I cant confirm on dirt king, but I would recommend getting a kit figured out before pulling the trigger on some coils.

Careful if the shop is telling you stuff like that without knowing sounds like they don't know what they are doing! Lead times on shocks could take weeks even months sometimes always hard to say. Most of those shocks of the 3.5" Lt Kits are 8" Travel coilovers with differences in lengths and each long travel kit manufacturer has figured out how they want theirs setup. For example our LSK kit uses a cap over top cap shock making them shorter. Call TC and they will help you out.

7" lift, do you have a drop bracket lift? Combining a drop bracket lift and long travel is generally not a good idea

I would run from this shop, fast

No drop bracket, 3" lift + 4" spindles.
I'm giving the guy a chance, he has never done long travel on a Tacoma, and he told me that up front... I live in central Texas, no one here messes with long travel. We are gonna get it figured out

Arnt there a few LT guys in Texas? I remember coming across a few of them, wouldn't surprise me if they went to AZ or somewhere outside of Texas to get stuff done though. Im in VA and only because I have found a fabricator who used to build race vehicles across many platforms that I feel comfortable with anyone over on the east coast to even attempt an LT rear. It def sounds like your shops over there might need to call some of the product companies to get more familiar at a minimum. Bolting on the front is pretty easy to do though assuming they know how to remove CVs and swap out CV axle shafts.

No CV axles on my 2 wheel drive. I can probably install the kit myself. I've done UCA and LCA swaps and installed a few lift kits before. The front end can be done in a driveway. The rear end will definitely be done by a well known shop somewhere when I have that done.

I'm using the shop I'm going through now because he is cutting me really good deals for loyalty and letting him get his feet wet in Tacoma LT. We are both learning a lot. I'm not the kind of guy to haul my truck to a shop, give him money and pick up a finished truck.

I can list on one hand all of the LT tacomas I know of in Texas, and most of them are from far away. It is 900 miles across Texas lol there is much room for us to disperse

Yes but there are also other factors to take account. As shock body lengths , lower rod end lengths ,Cup retainer thicknesses. They arnt close enough to be just called the same. Which could mess up bump locations and even damage the arm, for example a2.5x 8" sway away vs a2.5x 8" fox shock is a huge difference.

OP just said he is learning as he goes, is getting a deal from the shop so he's not showing up to a random spot and being messed with, does most of his own work, and you chose to avoid quoting all that and make a remark. You expect him to be happy? I wouldn't like that either. Please be more respectful and read all of the stuff being said before you comment. The point is to help each other learn, thank you man.
