    Hi guys,
I know , I'm already over my towing capacity but my boat is 7000 pounds and I put it in and out twice a year and the dock is only 2 miles from my house. Would that be OK ? or will I break stuff Thanks

I don't think you are going to break stuff,, sure it will cause extra strain and wear (how much? we will never really know). Just be vigilant on fluid changes. I would use 4L to pull it out, to reduce transmission heat.

Awesome thank you that's what I'm thinking as it's so close I know it's not good for the truck, but it's quick and once or twice a year and these Toyotas are near bulletproof

Do it for the next 10 years and let us know the results.

You are probably a safety hazard, but if the truck isn’t complaining you are not likely to break anything. Listen to your truck.

I wouldn't sweat it, just go slow and leave it in S mode so it's not trying to upshift all the time.
I would also still look to a brake controller for safety.

Must be a monster boat lol.

Our halibut, salmon and tuna boats are 26’ bulk heads and don’t even weigh that much.

Mechanically, your truck will probably be ok, but are there any stop lights or intersections on the way to the dock where stop light and sign runners might cross your path? How about residents or parks near the road where kids might suddenly dart out in front of you? Definitely take a longer braking distance than you’re used to into account while you are towing.

No doubt. My previous 18’ boat plus the trailer was 2300lb. He must have a 40’ off-shore race boat.

OP failed to note by far the most important parameter for trying to tow anything, esp. overweight:

What is the maximum slope (in degrees, or percent) and the total elevation change (in feet) over the "just 2 short miles away" between house and lake?

If it's flat or nearly flat there will be no problem.

On the other hand, if there are one or more 7%-12% grades between point A and point B, those grades are likely to put the truck + trailer combination well past the danger zone.

I mean wake boats are heavy but a 24’ wake boat still only weighs 5-6k and if you’re spending 200-300k on one of those you probably have a 100k diesel.

    7k pound boat is a big boat. 29, 30, 32’ fiberglass boats.

To be fair through I’m not including trailer weight.

A typical all-fiberglass 28-ft boat weighs more than 5,000 -6,000 lbs. a dumb relative of mine put all new wood decking and cabinets in his and towed it around in a crappy trailer without brakes with his S10 pickup! The last time I rode with him, back when I was younger and dumb about towing and a lot of other stuff, we approached an intersection where there were emergency vehicles at an accident scene in the middle of it and he couldn’t stop, so he weaved around them towing (actually being pushed by) that huge boat. Later that day, he had me get people to help pull and push the POS up the ramp because his truck couldn’t get the boat out of the water. I laughed when I heard he had to be rescued because the boat sank when the hull cracked (probably from all that weight topside from all his cabin mods). It was dumb and dangerous for him to tow something so over the towing capacity of that little truck, especially without working trailer brakes. It’s not just the weight on the suspension that matters, but the ability of the vehicle to stop safely that really counts.

I hope OP does well, it’ll not go well for him if he gets into an accident with it as not only might he get cited for towing over capacity, but his auto and boat insurance might deny payout if they know it as well.

It's a 26 foot Edgewater express literally one stop sign and one red light for the boat ramp. I totally agree. Definitely gonna be fun to stop but my older boat was around 5K pounds and I actually never had any issues with it

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

The weight requires a brake controller and weight distribution hitch.

It is a 2 mile trip - don't you have a friend with a more capable truck who you could take out for a nice lunch for the favor?
