I ASS-U-ME_D, I don't know 100% his income but this post pretty clearly lays it out, if he makes even a fraction of what the video claims, it is most likely more...

That Tacoma in the video from earlier looked super nice. I wonder what happened to it.

Once back on level ground, Matt checked the oil level, and it was barely at the low mark. I assume that too steep of a climb meant oil pickup sucked air and lacked lubrication. Always check the oil level and top up to the "high mark" one quart in extreme conditions can make a difference.

The first time I changed the oil in my FJ40 was, "how much oil does this thing hold?" That 8.5-quart capacity made a difference.

I did read something about that. I really wonder what happened after the video. I hope he fixed it.

Delivering lumber to someone's house on 3 separate occasions, and then filing a claim with AAA as if he towed the owner's vehicle. AAA questioned the owner, and he admitted to lying, and said Matt suggested it.

yeah it was pretty blatant fraud. Far from him filing a AAA claim for an off-road recovery to help a customer out.

As for his YouTube income 1 million+ subscribers = big money. Why do you think he pays a camera crew to follow him now and has a full time video editor on staff? Hell he even has a light guy come on night recoveries now. He wouldn’t be paying all those folks if he wasn’t raking in some serious dough.

Wouldn't that be the insurance customer filing the claim? Unless the tow company conspired with the customer to file a claim, I can't see how the company could be involved.

The way AAA works is you show your card to the service provider and they file the claim with AAA. You don’t pay or file anything.

Why would a tow company perform that kind of work? That sounds like a terrible way to accept payment, and the company has to do the work filing a claim that may, or may not get paid.

It makes less sense for a utube millionaire to tow for an insuraaance co.

“Claim” is probably misleading. I doubt the paperwork is any more onerous than a plumber sending you a bill for fixing your toilet. There are contracted prices for different services. I’m sure it’s all digital anyway.

Former Autoclub Tow truck driver here .....

Yes all calls between the stranded motorist and Autoclub dispatch / call centers are digitally entered . Dispatch sees your phone# and membership card on a computer screen and using your phones GPS location they locate the closest ICS station nearest your vehicles stranded location

Autoclub then contacts that ICS using the computer to link in with the ICS station and the Tow trucks MDT terminals . The Drivers acknowledge the call by pressing corresponding keys thru out the service call . So all communications are digitally recorded . The drivers now only ask for I.D only not the membership card

Yes there are set rates for winchouts and other services provided by the ICS . These rates are set by Autoclub and by local Law enforcement agencies . With these MDT terminals in the trucks it is almost impossible to cheat with services rendered , or times on scene

It would seem difficult to cheat the system.

Outside of what you mentioned. I was under the impression that an autoclub customer can try to have a tow that the motorist paid for reimbursed by the autoclub. That a non autoclub tow company performed.

For example a customer contracted with a tow company to haul lumber, and then decided to submit those charges through their auto club membership.

That’s an option but it’s a tiny minority of service calls that get reimbursed that way. The vast majority just call AAA and a provider is routed to them, the member never sees the bill.

An off road recovery might be one of those instances because it’s a specialty service.

What you're describing is what's commonly called a COD call from either a walk up customer or customer that called THE ICS directly and bypassing Autoclub all together . The payment for services rendered would be between the customer and ICS station . This COD call can't be billed or reimbursed towards their autoclub membership

Now the same customer could use their membership card but the ICS has to call Autoclub dispatch center for approval from a supervisor . Most of the time that is denied and only offered by COD only . Also the Tow truck driver on scene can deny the service if he he feels its not within autoclubs policy and request COD only

When I was a Tow truck driver and was dispatched to an accident scene . If the members car was significantly damaged or destroyed and the member handed us their autoclub card we refused it and told the member it would be COD only and billed with your insurance
