The entire video Sunday was basically explaining why a big 6x6 is terrible for what he does.

He states at the end of the video he is going to be doing some sort of wrecker which makes sense. The Morevair is big enough to pull any RV or 1t truck out of anything. But he doesn’t have a great tool for getting a truck out that tore a wheel off. His answer in the past has been to bring a welder with him and make some field repairs so it can be rolled out. But a wrecker that could lift one end would make for faster recoveries and then let a shop fix what is broken correctly.

I think it was in one of the Fabrats videos where someone had an old square body wrecker that was rat rod awesome. It will be a real effort to get the suspension right. As the 6x6 video showed, a balance between soft/flex/comfort and strength/weight capacity is hard.

A Stewart and Stevenson M 1078 FMTV 2.5 ton Military vehicle is what Matt needs for doing off road recoveries and it even comes equipped with CTIS system

Hmm, for the price of a new Taco:

Couple Transform Military Truck Into Dream Mobile Home | RIDICULOUS RIDES

A COUPLE have converted a retired military truck into a purpose-built, one of a kind off-road mobile home. Kourtney and Trevor Smithson of Virginia, USA built their very own home on wheels using an original Stewart and Stevenson M1078 LMTV troop carrier which they picked up at a military auction. The conversion took just six weeks to complete and cost the couple around $37,000, including the purchase of the truck. Its owners named the ex-combat vehicle turned cosy mobile home, ‘Wazimu’, which translates as ‘crazy’.

Sunday's video was a really interesting comparison. The dead pull in the sand was the most impressive to me.

If the Banana had a nice perf built LS3 6.0 litre and maintenance kept up on it they both would have scored evenly

Yeah, Matt mentioned the disparity in how much he spent on their suspensions.

I'm surprised that the Banana hasn't windowed that six cylinder . That little engine has been over reved so many times those rod - main bearings and rod bolts are smoked

“Rode hard and put up wet” as my grandad use to say. I think the banana is going to get some love soon though.

If they had the correct Tow / Recovery vehicle it would have been much easier . Having a Military or Commercial style Heavy Duty 35 - 50 ton rated truck with a 45k lb rated 2 spd deck winch would have easily pulled that RV out

I think that’s going to be an upcoming project. But I wonder how often it would get used. The cost to benefit ratio may be very high.

There's been over 10 video's I've watched were a 35 - 50 ton rated recovery vehicle could have successfully recovered the stranded owner

This most recent video a standard 35 ton heavy duty tow truck could have pulled that RV out . These trucks have a minimum of 400' of winch cable on those winch drums . Also 300' of spare cable stored onboard . These trucks also have the ability to do side pulls by using their deck winches

in many of his videos, he states that he only packs the bare essentials for recovery in sand, which is a majority of his recoveries. There have been times he doesn't even pack a winch to save on weight.... He even has a video where he talks about the trailer he tows with the Jeep.... he lightened the heck out of it. Thinking that vehicle is way too heavy to do what he does. His buddy that has the Fab Rats youtube channel has a pretty neat 2nd gen Tacoma that is solid axle swapped that helps him with recoveries (there is a cool video on how he acquired it as well), it is pretty impressive what that thing can do. I believe in one of his recent videos he added a welder to it.

He's already addressed the milsurp truck idea.

I'm sure he knows his business.

he’s already addressed this and clearly has zero interest in one. He makes a very good point that it would take way longer to reach clients in one and time is money. Plus one wouldn’t even be able to reach a lot of their recovery locations.

I love Northern California. Used to travel in an Open diff rear-wheel-drive Datsun. Went with my brother and German Shepard up the trail. My German Shepard went crazy when he spotted cows. That was about 1976.

We were camping at loon lake when a bunch of Jeeps showed up. "We didn't know there was a back road to get up here?" Just the one way in and out at that time. They all told me no way would my vehicle make it up that road. The next morning they were gone at daybreak when we headed down the trail. Bouncing over rocks all way down that road. Passed the jeep group on the way down. The trick was to hit rocks with momentum to slide up and over (5/16" 6061 skid plate, radiator tucked up, kept on running).

The road has changed since then. I still own my come along! Hand-powered winch! 1800 pound vehicle so wasn't too bad.

Learned how to stick weld with three batteries and jumper cables at Caddilac Hill!
