Bought new in Dec 2015. 14,787 miles on it. Regular maintenance as prescribed. Even had a 5000 mile oil change for kicks. Due for maintenance at 15k.

I live in South Carolina. Drove up to my parents home in Tennessee on Dec 25th... about 300 Miles. Headed out for my wife’s sisters in Ohio today (Dec 28th). No issues throughout the drive. Got to my sister-in-laws.. about a 275 mile drive. Truck sat for a few hours and decided to make a run to the store. Truck started up like usual and I let it warm up since it’s about 22 degrees out. Started to pull out and noticed a triangle with an ! lit up in the speedometer. I’ve never seen a light on this truck except during startup so I pulled the manual out. Apparently that’s the “Master Warning” indicator. The manual says you might get a message on the HUD.. so I checked there... “No messages”. I went ahead and drove to the store (7 Miles) and thought it might sort itself out and not light up when I came out of the store. I was there about 30-40 minutes. Same light when I left out. I realized I stopped about 130 Miles out from Ohio to top off my fuel. My wife put the gas cap on so maybe it was loose. I stopped on the highway and tightened it up. Wife says she thinks she turned it until it clicked... but maybe not. I went ahead and drove a few miles and stopped to fill up... about 6 gallons. I put the cap on and started the truck... still shows the light. Drove back to my sister-in-laws and let the truck sit while I looked around the internet and this forum. I see the 2016 crankshaft sensor recall.. but I can’t imagine the truck knows it has a recall but can only tell me with a random warning light. Sooooooo.... thoughts?

It does that for a while then it will randomly say that service is due. At least mine does...

You reset it from the steering wheel on the dash menu.

I was reading about how to reset that as an option. If any of the dealers around me had an opening I would take it by and get the 15K maintenance just to be sure... but resetting the system might be my only option until I get home in a few days. Good to hear that might be all it is.

I was told by Toyota over the phone that it turns on when it’s nearing 5K miles cycles to warn you that it’s due for service soon. It should also display due for maintenance on the dash.

Sounds like that’s what it is. 2 years of owning it and less than 15k... shows you how often I have see the “maintenance due” alert.

If it's not flashing or there is no buzzer, it's just the maintenance reminder.

Thanks Splitbolt. I’ll resrt the maintenance alert in the morning and stop worrying about it. If I wasn’t 8 hours from home with the wife and kid and West Virginia mountains and snow on its way... I wouldn’t have thought much about it. Funny how getting older makes you worry about stuff. I was telling my dad how I still monitor my gas mileage like I did my first car... on paper. That was always how I could tell if there was a problem. Stupid computers and HUDs make me think something’s wrong. I got the best mileage I have seen in awhile... 18.2 to the gallon... and a stupid idiot light freaks me out. ‍♂️
