The master cylinder reservoir in my 1999 Tacoma appears to have a lot of cracks, not leaking, and can't feeling them though.

I've looked around for a replacement reservoir but other than OEM I can't find a match. Seems like a lot of after market master cylinders don't include the reservoir either.

Any ideas for a good replacement? Should I just get a new master cylinder, if so any suggestions?

Looks like the aftermarket master cylinders I see on Amazon (Dorman-made in China) come with the reservoir. After reading the reviews I wouldn't use one of them in my truck, but if you can't find a reservoir you COULD swap just the reservoir out, that way you keep the well made OEM cylinder, if anything just hone the OEM cylinder out and throw a new seal on the rod/shaft. Only thing I would use from an aftermarket brake master cylinder would be the reservoir. Could also try to find a reservoir in better shape than yours from a Pic n pull, etc. and swap that reservoir onto yours. If you're gonna do that might as well do a brake fluid flush since you'll have system opened up anyways and will need to bleed regardless. Anywho, some ideas

Thanks for the info. I checked out Rockauto too and they only have full master cylinders also, no reservoirs. For some/most of those it isn't clear if they include the reservoir or not. To make it worse, the OEM part number for my non-abs model, 47220-04020, is discontinued. The ABS version, 47220-35040, is still purchasable, but I don't know it they fit...

I did this with the power steering reservoir. A new reservoir by itself would have been some price like $200+. I bought a new cheap China made pump and reservoir for $50. I shelved the pump and used only the new reservoir. Works great.

    OP,
Purchase a newer version of the OEM unit. I still retain my OEM MC unit after a SAC which includes a 231mm Tundra brake upgrade up front and discs in the rear via Diamond axles.
This things stops on a dime.

Yours is sweet, I agree. But all he wanted to do was to get rid of the superficial cracks in the existing reservoir :rofl:but I mean how could you not recommend SAS having gone that route :D

    Cruiser,
I guess what I meant was that even after my mods, I retain the OEM unit and it functions well.

So part # 47220-35040 fits the non ABS master cylinder too? Is there a difference in grommets?

Did you ever find the answer to this question? I'm in the same bote, trying to replace the MC reservoir only but the the non ABS version is no where to be found and was wondering if the ABS version will fit the non ABS master cylinder.

Haven't tried it yet. I just decided to wait until I get a leak
