Mass airflow sensor question

    For all of you that have changed or cleaned your mass airflow sensor have you had any issues getting it out or breaking it?? I’m about to clean mine in the next couple days and just wanted to see if people of had issues.

    Looks like a Gen2.5 TRD Sport, but really an '08 TRD OffRoad
    TRD Supercharged / OTT Tuned
    Afaik, just dont strip the heads of the two fasteners when loosening/tightening them. If i recall, the sensor is then just pressure fitted with a rubber o-ring to seal/mate the surface.

    Just cleaned my MAF sensor yesterday on my 2015. It was one of the easiest things to do. Took about 5 minutes. Remove engine cover with 2 10mm bolts and phillips screwdriver to remove 2 MAF screws. I will say that the screws are smaller than your standard #2 phillips. Maybe #1 would work better. I pressed the button on the retaining clip and separated with a flat head screw driver. Popped out MAF sensor placed on a piece of cardboard and hosed it down with CRC MAF sensor cleaner. It was warm out so it dried quickly. Replaced everything and was good to go.

    The Napa sales clerk asked if I had a CEL and is that why I was purchasing the cleaner. I don't, just want to keep i clean and this is the first time doing so at just over 100,000 miles.

    It is pretty straight forward. I watched a video from here after some other posts about the sensor, Good luck to you.

    Yea I have watched a couple of videos they just say be careful because the part is expensive if I break it.

    when putting it back in, go easy on the lil screws that hold it in the intake, they are simply coarse threaded small screws threaded right into the plastic, which makes the hole they go into easily stripped.

    Other that that, the maf's on our trucks are packaged in such away you would have to be real dumb to screw em up.

    I've cleaned probably hundred, biggest risk is dropping the screws. If you're truly worried, remove the intake entirely (to clean the throttle anyway) and remove the MAF on a bench.

    Replaced my MAF a month ago, super super simple. The OEM part isn't that expensive either if you do somehow manage to break it... I think I got mine on Amazon for around $60

    It’s easy to do. I do mine every 30K. Since I got everything apart I clean the throttle body as well.

    The only trick is to use MAF cleaner. It’s not the same stuff you use on the throttle body, etc.

    Too few to list.
    I do this yearly on all our cars. I even take the throttle body off for a good cleaning. Like someone said, dropping or losing the screw would be the biggest risk.

    After cleaning, I would also remove the neg battery cable for a couple of min to reset the ECU. If the MAF was dirty, the ECU would need to relearn. Not a required step, but why wait for it to relearn on its own.

    I do mine every 20k with the throttle body. Usually pick up 1-2 mpg. Like said above use the crc cleaner for the MAF and use there throttle body cleaner as well. Just a tip when you’re cleaning the MAF there’s two spots that need cleaning the one that looks like a glass tear drop and then down inside just spray the snot out of it. If its hot out it will dry quickly
