Anyone know how to remove the leather shift boot?

I assume i will need to pop the bezel at the base of the boot, but at what locations do i do this so i dont snap it?

I have changed my shift knob and now the boot just rattles on the stick. I am wanting to take it apart and rig something up, but first need to remove the boot.

    Thanks,
    djp

I have an auto, but looking at the manual it would appear that you have to remove the knob, then the upper console assy (plastic that snaps on) then remove the 4 screws on the boot.

I found this in the section for transmission removal. It has a bit more detail. You don't have to remove the battery connection unless you are removing the whole tranny.

Are there any better instructions on removing the "upper console panel sub-assembly" ? I think that's going to be my most difficult part. I actually thought the bezel around the leather shift boot would be something i can pop out? can I?

OK, here's the relevant sections of the manual.

Are those instructions from an SR model? Are there instructions for 4x4 DC OR M/T?

I seem to have an extra bezel compared to what is in your picture. Is that silver bezel at the base of the shift boot just removable? Or do i need to follow instructions to take out entire console area?

The manual sections for the console are not specific to SR5 vs OR vs Ltd or any other model. Just auto vs manual. Like I said, I have an auto so my console box is different. According to the instructions, you have to remove the entire console box. The silver ring is part of it, not separately removable. Somewhat like the chrome around the cup holders.

You were correct it was one piece.
However the bezel can be removed once the console is removed.

    thanks again!

What held the chrome plastic trim ring on at the top of the boot? Will be doing exactly what you have done to your boot to mine this weekend.

a zip tie held the chrome ring on, one snip and it was off.
