I made the mistake of buying a gallon of MT-90 at Summit Racing cause I was picking up an order and decided to save some time, it was $71. I used to work there and it was pretty much half off with my discount. I miss those days.

I really debated between MT-90 and Amsoil’s version of the same thing. I opted with MT-90 cause its what most folk suggested and my head was about to explode with all the information.

Anyone know the redline weight and amounts for these below? GL types?
It’s been awhile and I forgot.

    So the 5 speed takes 2.7 quarts, m90, 75w-90 GL4

What redline type oils and amounts are needed for

    1)5 speed takes 2.7 quarts, M90, 75w90. GL4.

    2) The t case amount takes? Weight? Gl type? M90, 75W90 GL4, 1 Quart,

    3) Rear differential amount takes? Weight? GL type?

4)Front differential amount takes? Weight? GL type?

    Edit
    5speed is 2.7
    T-case is 1.1
    Front Diff is 1.6
    Rear Diff is 3

Ended up getting 4 quarts of Amsoil 75w90 GL5 for the front and rear diffs.
Ended up getting 4 quarts Redline MT90 75w90 for the transmission and Tcase.

    All GL5 75W-90.

There is torque for each bolt, but I can't remember on the top of my head.

I actually just did this. I usually use MT-90, but I decided to try out Amsoil MTG cause I was feeling lazy and the bags looked easy, which they were. I would consider Amsoil for the transmission, it handles much much better in colder conditions in my opinion, but MT-90 still works solid.

I have not tried the Redline MT equivalent but I remain fairly amazed how much better the Amsoil MTG feels shifting than the stock juice. Especially in cold.

Thanks, If I remember the Torque like 27-29 pounds,

Do you remember the Allen key or mm for the front diff drain plug? 10mm?

Yes 10mm and the only one that might be tough so go easy. Really though the Tacoma is probably one of the easiest vehicles to change all fluids in.

The rear on mine is 15/16, not 24mm.

This is a very helpful thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-manual-transmission-6mt-fluid-change.481719/

I had full intentions of sticking with MT-90, but I had access to a good discount on the bags and I was feeling lazy about using a hand pump. I'm going to stick with Amsoil MTG just cause the of the cold weather performance.

Ended up getting 4 quarts of Amsoil 75w90 GL5 for the front and rear diffs.
Ended up getting 4 quarts Redline MT90 75w90 GL4 for the transmission and Tcase.

I was running the Amsoil in the transmission and was developing a 3rd gear slight grinding going into gear.
I changed just the transmission oil to redline MT90 3 years ago and the 3rd gear synchro grinding went away

Hey taco lovers, I have a question about the following two Amsoil products:

Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90 (Product code : MTGPK-EA)
    SEVERE GEAR® 75W-90 (Product code : SVGPK-EA)

Is one "better" than the other? Are both suitable for use in diffs, transfer cases, and manual transmissions? Is one better than the other for certain drivetrain components?

I reached out to Amsoil with these questions and will let you know what they say. Thanks in advance!

Yes, the Manual Transmission one is spec'd particularly to protect the syncros in the manual transmission while the other is not.

The severe gear is fine for the differentials and transfer case.

Yeah, it can be hit and miss.

I had great luck with MT90 while my buddy did not -- he had better luck with Amsoil

Thanks for the input. I'm going to run the Amsoil this time. I've only had the truck for a few months and this will be the first such fluid change under my purview, but I'll be sure to let you know my results.

I agree with this other than the cold weather. I’m an MT-90 fan, but went with Amsoil this time around out of laziness. I like the appeal of the easy to fill bags. I plan on sticking with amsoil from here on out cause the lazy factor.

FWIW you can remove the shifter and fill the transmission from the top too. No more messing around with squeeze bottles or pumps under the truck :)

I spent a little more time reading the documentation on Amsoil's website, and also perused this article explaining GL-4 vs GL-5: https://www.rymax-lubricants.com/updates/the-differences-between-gl-4-and-gl-5/

GL-5 has a much higher concentration of sulfur/phosphorus additives than GL-4. Those additives make the oil perform better in extreme conditions, but can react with bronze/copper synchro gears so that's why GL-4 is recommended in many MTs and T cases.

The literature available on Amsoil's website indicates that the Severe Gear is formulated to GL-5 standards, while their MT oil product is formulated to GL-4 standards so as to be safe for synchros.
