Manual Trans loud pop and resistance in reverse

Hey y’all, new problem with the truck I’m trying to pinpoint. This morning backing into my space at work I put the truck in reverse, after moving 3 ft the truck just stopped, like I was pushing against a wall. Then it made a loud pop, now it will reverse some but with a ton of resistance. No clutch or trans issues before this It also makes a grinding noise moving in reverse now. It will go into the gear no issues, moving is the problem

 

Start with the simple stuff first. Are your brakes ok?

In an old car, I had a brake caliper lose a bolt and actually punctured my wheel when I tried going in reverse with a ton of resistance. Due to the direction the caliper was leaning, there was no resistance in forward. Maybe a brake shoes has come loose?

 

year of truck , is it 4x4 , what size engine ?
Do you use the parking brake ?
With 280k have you ever changed the shifter bushing ?
Just had another member with a similar problem . His carrier bearing grenaded on the driveshaft causing the transmission to bind

Is it lifted?
Driveshaft zerks need grease at oil changes and are supposed to be retorqued. Was included at stealership long ago but now it's separate service.

sounds like a brake retainer pin broke and a shoe is wedged against the drum. Chock the front tires and lift the rear then try to spin the rear wheels.

 

Haven’t really been able to check much yet since I’ve been at work. Carrier bearing and all new joints are new spicer parts. As of yesterday morning. It’s a 3.4 v6 4x4 mt. Clutch bushing etc were done 100k miles ago when the frame was replaced, truck had 320k miles now

 

Are you saying this just happend after a new carrier bearing ?
Check out this thread . What are the chances your driveshaft is installed all the way to the front .
In most cases , the first thing I would consider is a break issue but ????????

What do you mean all the way to the front? It reversed fine yesterday it’s what’s throwing me off

 

Update ‍♂️ I guess something was frozen, now it runs just fine. I figured anything frozen would have thawed out on my 40 mile commute to work

 

Glad it was even simpler than I had hoped! Do you know what froze?
