Hi there - I’m thinking of adding a Magnusson SC to my 2022 Tacoma (3.5l V6). Can anyone recommend whether I should also definitely be adding in a cold air intake and/or new exhaust?

just adding in a picture of Jennifer for those who might be interested ;)

First, Welcome Aboard! Nice setup. I have the same for my kayak pretty much also.
I have a magnuson SC (about a year now I guess) and I don't think you would need a CAI (because it already is one) unless you want shiny looking stuff inside. As far a exhaust goes, I have the TRD Pro, and I think the only difference is the exhaust tip! lol....just the tip (sorry....tangent). Maybe go Y pipe route from URD (I've heard positive reviews of this change for sound and power....it also apparently changes the Catalytic Converter theft opportunity from what I understand).
As far as snorkel goes, I'm adding one for "all the above" reasons. Looks, cooler air, cleaner air, but have no idea if it will make a difference. I'll let you know when I install it.
Bottom line for me is that the SC made my driving experience so much better. I thought about getting a project sports car to build up, but why bother when I can get power gains in my truck! just my thoughts.

In my opinion your warranty is worth more than the super charger. I would wait for warranty to go out before getting one.

if you are actually getting the SC and want performance then of course a proper performance exhaust will be a benefit. but no shortcut answers here, there are a ton of threads on how to do it and how to not do it.

Honestly for bang for the buck go with a tune first @mZiggy @tonered can help. If after the tune you still need or want more power go with the supercharger. The cost is steep and the biggest criticism is how much power you get for that cost… Here’s the thing… now smaller pulleys are available as well as an aftermarket Yotawerx tune @mZiggy and things are starting to get exciting as the TVS1900 is WAY oversized for this motor. I have no regrets.

Intake? Meh… Get it for looks as someone else mentioned. Don’t do it for performance.

Exhaust? URD Y pipe adds a dyno proven 9 WTQ for the NA 3.5L. Probably a bit more with the supercharger. Ton of info in the following threads:

Magnuson supercharger Yotawerx dyno thread work in progress:

For anyone somewhat local to El Paso, I still have my Doug thorley catless y-pipe with resonators sitting in my garage for sale. Lol

I’m glad to hear you have such positive reviews even after a year! I just got mine and I giggle every time I pass a bmw or Mercedes’ it’s just so enjoyable with a full camper set up and bikes on my racks to pass people when it used to struggle to keep up!
I’m ordering the URD y pipe, I have the TRD filter element and I’m running stock exhaust since I don’t want a lot of noise

^^^^ Completely agree with this. Tune and then if desired a SC for more power. Return on pleasure from intake and exhaust won't measure up the smiles per gallon of the other two. As for Magnuson warranty related to the SC - 3 yrs / 36K miles from time vehicle is placed into service (when it left the lot). One year if outside those limitations. I was past the 3/36 so it was a non-issue, and I have had zero warranty issues related to the SC or Toyota basic warranty. Tough call but the decision will be clear if the Tune does not satisfy your expectations. I will say the SC and YW Tune for it made it worth every penny. GL and enjoy the truck!

For reference, I have a 2019 trd offroad Lb with c4 hybrid bumper, winch, sliders, GFC camper, kings 2.5 Al around on icon rxt leafs in option 3, on 265/75r16s, and about 200lbs of shit in my bed. Just yesterday I got into a little race with a beemer x3m on the freeway and I dusted his ass

You sure it was an M or that they were racing back? Per this article they run mid 11s at almost 120... Supercharged or not don't see our trucks anywhere near that.

Are you sure he was racing you? Stock weight of a DC Tacoma and an X3 M are very close and the X3 is probably making 200 more horse even with your SC

He was prett pissed he couldn’t get around me. Must have been a stock x3 with a m sticker then, im in los angeles, there are a bunch of people here that would misrepresent by putting a pro sticker or m sticker for more mph. I let him get side by side with me before i stomped on it and i held more than a truck length for an exit or 2.

of note as appropriate for the AT: the Global speed on the Magnuson Tune is the same as the OEM - like 90ish, and the fuel cut-off/rpm redline is also OEM. The Global speed and fuel cut-off/rpm and redline on the YW SC Tune have been adjusted up from OEM. @mZiggy can speak to this.

Supercharging it would be sick, but are you sure you don't want to upgrade to a Tundra or another full-size? That seems to be more logical to me if you only want more power and a faster truck

Agreed. In my G8 I once lost to a Tundra crew cab with two guys in it. At Houston they ran 12:01 to my 12.53. They were supercharged, and I was just intake, headers and tune. If you are going to do performance, do performance...do it on a V8. If for no other reason than it sounds MUCH better! More hp and grins for the dollars spent.

Thanks - a lot - for all the feedback team. Happily the SC cannot void my warranty (by law in MA) so I do think I’m going to pull that plug. @taco terror: City living makes a larger truck basically impossible so this is the best of all worlds. Will update after - really appreciate the help!

That whole warranty thing is not really true. If you blow the engine because of the supercharger install that is 100% not covered. If you have any engine issue that can be related to the supercharger or installation process Toyota will be very, very unlikely to honor the warranty. If you explode the rear diff doing burnouts with the extra power Toyota will not fix it, etc. Magnusson provides a 3yr/36k mile warranty from the date the vehicle entered service (not the s/c install date), ONLY if the supercharger is installed at a ASE certified shop, ONLY after Toyota denies the initial warranty claim and ONLY up to a specified dollar amount. Magnusson's warranty is also voided by any modification of their setup to include pulley or software changes.
