    Good morning Team-
I bought my 2018 TRD Double Cab Sport used last year after my 2017 was totaled.

I had a blow out a few weeks back and lo and behold- there is no locking lug key to be found anywhere in the truck/ shame on me for not checking when I bought it.

Anyone have good recommendations for replacement locking lug nuts that won’t cost me a fortune? Honestly don’t “want” to by 4 full new sets of lugs…but if that’s my best bet I’m not against it totally.

    Thanks I’m advance.
    Bryan

I once bought a set of four at a Napa store when the tire shop lost my original locking lug nut removal tool. Yes they were not cheap.
If you know the size, there some decent priced packages you can find online.

The best security lug nuts are from Gorilla brand but you will need to order the black ones if you don't want to see rust marks. I have yet to see any brand including Gorilla and McGard that do not rust when they are chrome. The socket contact point is where you will see the rust.

The Gorilla black lug nuts are super, I have them on my wife's Mustang and they do not have any rust on them at all.

Not sure why you can’t just get a key. I assume(hopefully correctly) AAA carry keys for all brands.

I believe that factory installed (or at port) locking nuts are made by McGard. Contact them as most dealers do not stock and/or order the keys for customers (in my experience).

You're correct about the McGard chrome ones. I had ordered a set to replace the lost key ones for my tundra. After about 10 years they stared rusting beginning in the area where it seats against the washer...which got rusty to. NAPA had the exact replacements in their store, but were around $40 for the package.

I have a chrome McGard set that we’re dealer installed. I took them off right after I purchased it. If you want them let me know, just pay the shipping.

I'd remove the locking lug nuts and put regular ones on. My wife's car was rifled through one night after she forgot to lock it. Lug nut key was stolen. Nice. Has the dealer remove the locknuts and put regular ones on. Daughter's car had a lock nut break off. I used a removal kit and put regular ones on. Bought the Tacoma, the dealer installed the kit but had the package in the truck with the regular nuts in it. First thing I did was remove the lock nuts. I don't care if someone wants to steal my "offroad" wheels, I'll take the insurance money and buy something else anyway.

I bought a set of the black McGard locks from the dealer. They were $126 Canadian. I felt that was a good deal. Try the dealer. You might be surprised.

I've also used McGard locks on numerous vehicles. Never noticed any rust, but I don't keep most vehicles for more than five years. Seems like a good set of wheel locks run about $50 now.

I also have the set that I took off. Happy to send them to anyone for the price of shipping. Just PM me.

After we bought our new-to-us Tacoma I noticed that it had locking lug nuts too. Like you, searched everywhere, no key. Took it to the Toyota dealer where we bought it and they brought out a box of impact socket "keys". Tried various ones until they found one that fit. They ordered a key and I picked it up a week later.

Used to park our Taco outside, nice neighborhood but wanted to slow anyone down to avoid the inconvenience. Sold a collector car and now I park it in the garage. A couple of months ago I swapped out the center caps for some OE TRD caps. The chrome lug nuts looked a bit odd so I bought a set of OE black chrome lug nuts. I like the look now.

Have installed cat shields and alarms on various vehicles too. All can be defeated of course, but hopefully it'll be enough to make the bad guys move on to an easier target.

Just use regular lug nuts. The negatives of using them outweigh the positives.

I bought a fancy sports car about 10 years ago and specifically ordered the locking nuts for it. About 3 weeks into owning the car I ran over a massive pot hole (in the middle of the night) and it shattered 2 rims and flattened both tires. Had the car towed to the dealer for new rims and tires. When I got the car back, they kept the locking nut key. I asked them for it and they said they didn't have it. I showed them the empty ziplock in the glove box where it was and they just shrugged their shoulders... but were happy to sell me a new key.

I removed them and went with standard nuts from then on. Not worth the hassle to me, especially for factory rims.

Can they be used with regular tacoma or 4runner wheels? Just asking because their description says for wheels that require them, thanks
