We we're able to walk away from this one. Thank you Toyota for building a safe vehicle. Surprised only two curtain airbags went off though. Two people and two dogs were in the vehicle. Nobody even had a scratch on us, just very shaken up.

wow glad you are all okay!

Waiting for someone to chime in how a faux cattle pusher bumper could of helped prevent damage.......

The most effective TV commercials for vehicles, for me, are not the whining engines at 90 MPH but the ones where someone says they walked away from a totaled vehicle. Subaru has new one out with just that message.

I will buy boring and solid over a 500 HP Challenger RTXY5 (or something like that) any day of the week, twice on Sunday.

This one was an automatic. This was my wife's truck. This one drove like an automatic should too. None of that shifty crap. I really liked this one compared to the auto 2017 I had. Pretty bummed she's toast

Glad you're okay! I was in a head on collision with a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 at approx 45-50 mph in my wife's 2014 Toyota Highlander. Same as you, I walked away with no physical damage, just shaken up. When asked what the new car we were going to purchase, it was a no-brainer. We got the new (at the time) 2019 Toyota Highlander. I've always felt Toyota vehicles are particularly safe. My experience and this testimonial only make me feel better about being a "Toyota Family". Glad to know Tacomas are among the "safer" crowd.

Was that a rollover? Because that should have triggered the curtain airbags, if it was just a really nasty side impact then there’s much more voodoo at play.

It was a head on into a rock wall at 70 mph then a roll over. Yes only the curtain airbags were deployed

Wait... ONLY the side curtain airbags were deployed? That is kinda concerning...

Don't forget about what a hood scoop could have done in that situation...

First generation airbags (decades ago) could kill ... single speed opening. 5 ft tall women were injured. They now sense the weight of each occupant and adjust release pressure to be effective but not fatal.

Only the side curtains deployed. We were safe in the cab, it never moved. It is very concerning. How hard do you need to hit before they deploy...

Judging by the front damage, they should have gone off. Just my opinion. Would love to hear an educated individual weigh in on the mater.

Toyota trucks have been built tough for years. My folks were pulling a 27' Airstream and lost control. Witnesses said it rolled 5 times. They got hurt, but were able to get out of the truck with help from people that stopped. My mom spent one day in the hospital for observation, my dad spent 2 days. His 2005 Tundra didn't have side airbags and his head busted out the side window almost removing his ear. This happened in 2009, he instantly bought another new Tundra.

Glad you’re ok, but the airbag concern is real.
This was fall 2015, truck was less than a month old. No airbags deployed (sorry for the crappy pic)IMG_4138.jpg
Edit: resulted from spilled diesel fuel on the road and telephone pole impact at approx 30 mph

We're gonna have to re-title this as a crashed/totaled thread here soon lol! It's awesome seeing the carnage tho.

I am curious about this too. Airbags are pretty complex these days... Might have to have OP probe his insurance evaluator for a report?
