For those of you who put LT tires on their Tacoma, was it a worthwhile investment? How badly does it really affect mpg, handling, braking, and ride comfort? Would you do it again?
I was thinking of getting some affordable LT tires that will last a long time and most likely never have to worry about punctures. I would basically be trading some on-road comfort for peace of mind and reliability. But if the downsides are that extreme, then i wont do it. I would like to hear other people's experiences with LT tires on their Tacoma.

100% they last longer, look better, and only eat up MPG with the bigger sizes.

If you go 265/70R16 E rated tame all terrain you'll barely notice a difference from the oem tires.

It's mud terrains and aggressive all terrains that start to ruin mileage.

There's not a ton of choice for the stock offroad 16" size. Going up one size to 265/75r16 is what most chose to do (like me). You can also go down a size to 245/75R16 for skinnier, but same diameter.

I'd suggest Michelin LTX for long term, and Firestone Destination AT2 for affordable. Both will do better for fuel economy than a BFG KO2.

I am running the LT265/75 R16 Cooper ST MAXX. They are 10 Ply rated. I also have an after market wheel. I average 18 mpg in the summer and 16 mpg in the winter and I have a heavy foot. I also have 220,534 miles on my Tacoma so it's no Spring Chicken. Yes I would do it again. I have run the 10 ply tires since I have owned the truck. I am the second owner. I have had the truck since it had 36,000 miles. I don't notice a harsh ride. I keep the tires aired up at 42 pounds all the way around.

You probably should start a seperate thread for that. You are asking an unrelated question.

Sounds like you want E load 10 ply strength, I run C load - 6 ply strength rating. In the 265 75 16 you can get tires in the 45 lbs range. You could go for 255 85 16, something like the ST Maxx if you want bomb proof.
