Ha ha thats why it is so hard to hit the right mixture.
none of 75w-90 oils worked for me despite trying multiple additives including amsoil.
Only after I used Valvoline 80w-90 Trans-x it worked so far 4 K and I will be changing before summer again to make sure there is nothing wrong with it.Its funny how i got obssesed with it I was changing diff fluid daily :D

I used cheap Valvoline 80-90 dino and Autozone LSD additive. Felt good spending under 20 bucks.

Do not use Synthetics in the 05+ LSD from what I have heard on the Tacoma forums.

15,000 is for special operating conditions (towing, offroading, etc).

I don't tow and I don't offroad so I'd consider myself in the 'grandma' category.

Yea that's what manual says but they don't distinguish between LSD and non-lsd diff which is wrong IMO. Read through site you will see how fluid looked like after 15K in other trucks, my oil after 12 K looked black. So I would not go pass 15K mark personally. Its up to you but oil+additive is cheaper then new LSD
    IMHO

Well the manual also states the oil should be Hypoid gear oil GL-5 (API standards)
I can post a pic of that too :)

Valvoline DuraBlend (synthetic blend) 80W-90 and 4oz of Champion LSD additive did not work for my 05 Prerunner TRD Sport.

I was getting vibration (stutter, shutter, etc) when accelerating in forward or reverse out of park and sometimes at low speeds around corners.

I drained and filled with Lucas dino 80W-90 with a 7oz tube of Trans-X today.

I've only done a few starts out of park and driven less than 10 miles on it, but it seems to be fixed now.

I need to change my differential fluid on my LSD Sport pretty soon but after reading all of the post I am very confused,,, and scared (don't want to mess things up). Should I just do a Trial-And-Error with different brands and additives (and spend a butt load of $) till I get it right? What seems the safest bet? Darn,,, I have a headache.

Call your local dealer and ask them what they use. Or just have the dealer do it.

I talked with my dealer a few times and bought synthetic (not same as what they use) and I used the same friction modifer they use.

    x2

I have Mobil 1 Delvac 75W-90 with two bottles of GM additive and no noise whatsoever. 4000 miles on that mixture already so it works for sure. :D

    Spoke too soon...

After maybe 1000 miles, the Lucas w/ Trans-X is as bad, if not worse than with the Valvoline DuraBlend w/ Champion.

Going to try it again with Toyota branded oil and whatever they sell at the dealer for friction modifier.

Hopefully this will solve the problem. If not, I guess I'll just live with it until it's time to get the 4x4 Tundra...

Just pick up GM additive and be done with it. Not sure if now will take 4 oz or 8 to make it work but I have now probably 7 K with n o issues and Mobil Delvac as the oil.
(I have 8 oz of GM additive. There is part number in the main thread)

Crappy dealer only has oil and additive in bulk. I'm not paying $80 for a quart of additive!

Going to try Valvoline dino 80W-90 with some GM additive.
