    Hello everyone,

Has anyone noticed if the volume in the sound system rear speakers is really low compared to the front ones? I guess I have the base model of the system. I couldn't find an ID number in the menu. picture is attached. the volume of the rear speakers is probably less than a 1/4 compared to the front. this is when I move the balance setting from the center to the rear.
The sound comes out clear. just very low when the setting is all the way to the rear compared to how loud the front ones are when the setting is in the center.
This is in a 2021 TRD OR double cab.

    TIA.

This is true of my 2017 double cab TRD OR. The rear speakers are not amped at the same power level as the front. Even if you replace the speakers, it’s the same deal.

my previous one was also a 17 but it was a TRD Sport. And I don’t remember it having that big of a difference between the front and the back.
In this new one. Having the volume at a comfortable level. If I move the slider all the way to the rear. You can barely hear it.

Maybe the new head unit exaggerates this “design”

I just upgraded all my speakers to kickers.

And yes with old and new the rears seem to be lower volume.

If you push the fade to the rear then Jack the volume it can help, but i found that just made them sound bad.

The biggest help with the speakers was the kicker tweets, really opened up the sounds.

Also, using the built in eq your phone if you are using bluetooth or aux is a huge help and shouldn't be overlooked.

Just know that on my Android galaxy s8, if you put any eq frequency to the top (+10) it bugs out and cancels the changes for the entire eq.

I basically set my eq in my phone to +9db across the board, then make the fine adjustments with the trucks basic high mid low.

I plan to play with it more in the coming days, i listen to a broad spectrum of music and an eq for blue grass doesn't work well with something like korn.

I miss the days when the stereo cost more than the car and sounded 10x's better LOL

Had the same issue. The stock head unit just doesn't enough to power them all equally to make it sound decent. That is if you replace all speakers to something better like I did. But even if you do that, you still will either need a inline add an amp wiring harness and a amp, or just deal with it. I can tell you it was a easy process to install and worth it. My setup sounds amazing with higher end kicker speakers all the way around.

Definitely is. Known and intended to be like that for some reason. I forget what the actual numbers are but one of the guys who are experts in this stuff said something like 12 watts in the front to 7 watts in the back. I can’t remember the actual numbers.

Usually the rear speakers are similar to surround sound units not being as loud. Depending on what audio your listening, and how its encoded will depend how it plays through your sound system.

2021 OR, yes very little sound coming from the rear speakers. I did the popular audio upgrade, the tweeters made a huge difference in itself, amazing. Adding the front door speakers big increase in bass, but really had to play with settings to get a reasonable balance again. Skipped the rear upgrade because there is so little volume anyway.

    Working on that
Yep, mine too, even after a nice upgrade in speakers. Adding an amp seems to be the only cure.

What I learned, even with Kicker tweeters is don't bother.

I used Focal drop in door speakers in all the doors and Kicker dash tweeters and while there was a sound difference it was nothing to write home about. The head unit just has no power

This is why I'm gutting my entire factory stereo and replacing it with a Pioneer deck, 2 amps, all new door and dash speakers, and 2 8" subs. It's all going in my Access Cab.
If the damn truck ever gets here.

Agreed. Depending on what someone is looking for, just upgrading the speakers may be fine but 10 watts or whatever the stock head unit is pushing just isn’t going to do much if you are looking to crank up a Zeppelin song and hear all the different tones that you didn’t even know were there. I kept the stock head unit and paired it with kicker KS components and the kicker key 200 amp. World of difference. Not going to break the bank either.

After setting your eq to +9db. How's the sound quality?

It's fine, i set my phone to that eq, then use Pandora.

I then set the eq in the truck to

High - 2 notches from top
    Mid-2 notches passed middle
    Low-1 notch from top

    I'm still tweaking

I skipped the rear door speaker upgrade but did tweeters and front door speakers. The sound was definitely better but the rear sounded “empty” of course. I added an 8inch subwoofer behind the rear seats and it is by far the best money I’ve spent on the truck. Plenty of power too.
