Low Tire Pressure Light Stays On

Last week I had my tires rotated. Yesterday I noticed my tire light was on, and I thought it odd since my '06 Tacoma was just in the shop. I took my kid to school, then let the truck sit for two hours and checked the pressure in all four tires. I found that all four tires were overinflated, one as much as ten pounds over the PSI specified in the door jamb! I went around and deflated each tire to the recommended 29PSI. But this had no effect on the tire light -- it stayed lit. Could my deflating the tires have caused some weirdness in the system? Could the overinflation have caused issues? What's my next move, take my Tacoma into the dealer?

 

Have you checked the spare tire?

Took mine out a long time ago, they are pretty useless.

 

how did you get the light to shut off after you removed your TPM's?

 

Put a piece of black electrical tape over it.

 

tempted to...I'm guessing the real solution is tear apart the dash and remove the bulb

I have not checked the spare. But now that's on my to-do list. I guess, auto shops don't typically do that as part of the tire rotation?

Regarding a faulty sensor, I will say that about two months ago while driving on the freeway, my TPMS light did come on, but it was blinking. I pulled over and checked my tire pressure, but they were fine, so I thought it must be a faulty sensor. But the next day it was fine and hasn't come back on flashing since. If it was faulty, wouldn't it flash as opposed to be steadily on?

 

Il Capo, thanks for the video. But I gotta say that in nearly a decade and a half of owning my truck, I have never noticed that button. I'm nowhere near my truck to go look at the moment, but I'm wondering, is that button standard equipment in the '06 Tacomas?

 

If you've checked your tires and they are all the correct psi, then you probably just need to reset, which basically reprograms to the new pressure setting. I believe someone posted a video. Easy to do. Once you reset, the light should go off.

If that doesn't work, then you may have an issue with a sensor.

 

I was wondering what that little box is for! mine is red...thought it was a rollover sensor or something...

 

Disconnecting the signal box above the headliner is the TPMS equivalent of unlocking a car with a tennis ball. Out of probably 100 TW members that have tried it, only the OP of that thread was able to make the light go out that way.

Some years of Tacos need the wire grounded and some need +12V (Or maybe it's +5V)connected to it. I don't know which years need which.
