Having some electrical issues with my headlights. I was previously running an aftermarket harness with high powered bulbs, my high beam indicator starting coming on halfway when my low beams were on, then when I would turn on the high beams, the indicator would fully light up.

Then my low beams stopped working all together. I tried new bulbs, no fuses are out, I tried new relays, nothing. Even plugged in my old headlights to the stock wiring and everything worked fine.

For the time being I bought new bulbs to run on the stock wiring until I can get the after market harness figured out. But now when my low beams are on, the driver side low beam is on, and passenger side high beam is on. When I turn on the high beams, they flip, driver side high beam, passenger side low beam. Also the low beam indicator turns off when I turn the high beams on which I don’t remember happening.

What do I have going on here?

It sounds like the aftermarket harness is the issue. Please provide details on the wiring for it.

I’m not hooked up to the aftermarket harness currently. The issues with the high/low beam I’m having right now are happening on the stock wiring with regular bulbs.

Sounds like you have something wired wrong but really odd you indicator goes out, does your high beam indicator work?

Switch the bulbs left to right, to make sure it's not something funny with the one bulb (since that's the only part that's theoretically different).

How many amps are the special bulbs drawing that you need a separate harness? I'd be looking into more efficient stock-rated bulbs, personally. Electrical changes is one of those cans of worms that seems to never get resolved.

I’ve never messed with the stock wiring, I’ve only added the harness which plugs into the stock harness and hooks to the battery. But that’s not hooked up at the moment like I previously posted, doing that so I don’t drive around with only high beams.

The high beam indicator does come on when the high beams are turned on, and the low beam indicator goes off.

I'd try swapping the bulbs first as suggested above.
Check your 4 HEAD fuses in the underhood fuse box as well.

This suggests the diode in the cluster is blown as the indicator is powered by the same circuit as the high beam indicator when the high beams are on.

I’ll give that a shot. I did check fuses they all are good. Where is that circuit in the photo located?

That would be internal to the instrument cluster, I don't think it has anything to do with your headlights being flip flopped though.

I just re-read your last paragraph. If the low beam and high beams are switching when you go from low to high, I would check how you have your bulbs installed. It sounds like the passenger bulb is installed in reverse. Depending on the configuration of the bulb you used, it might have allowed the bulb to twist in.

When they’re on, I looked at the filaments of the bulbs and one will have the lower filament lit, and the other has the opposite one lit.

    Ohh I see

Could corroded headlight sockets cause these issues?

That doesn't mean the bulb was inserted correctly. I would take the bulb out and see if it will plug back in in the other direction. Sometimes, the simplest fixes are ones people overlook.

How would that change the way it’s powered? It only plugs into the socket one way.

Sorry. LOL. I've been thinking of a different bulb. I would do what others suggested and swap the bulb to test as a sanity check.

Have you unhooked the aftermarket harness from the positive battery connection? You want that bad boy totally out of the trouble shooting equation.

As somebody else said, check the factory headlight (female) plugs that attach to the back side of the bulbs. If something is seriously corroded or bent in there, weird things can happen.

I have not, it’s still on there. I will try that when I swap bulbs. Also I went and bought new socket connections because mine look gross so I figured it would be worth a shot to swap them out. I’ll do that this weekend.
