Losing coolant can't find the leak

Hey guys got a 97 Tacoma 3.4 with a coolant leak..Havent found where its going but oil is clean so far.I did a head gasket replacement on this truck 2 years ago and changed everything but the radiator. Its not blowing smoke and when there is coolant it doesnt have oil in it. Any feedback would be great thanks..

 

Could be leaking on the top of the manifold and getting hot and burning off while running. Could be leaking around water pump and running backwards toward trans while in motion. Take the radiator cap off while it's running and see if there's bubbles indicating another leaking head gasket.

 

Can you smell coolant ??

Pressurize cooling system.

 

this what the coolant looks like I add about a half a radiator full every 3 or 4 days..and there are no smell of coolant so far

 

everything but the rad

do you have an automatic, and is is going into your transmission ?

check tranny dipstick for....foam

a 20 year old rad and automatic transmission is a ticking time bomb

 

No its a 5sd

 

head gasket, it is blowing out the tailpipe... it has to be at that rate of loss


do the hobo taste test at the water drops in exhaust. dead simple nasty but safe enough test, sweet ? dead giveaway it's blown

 

Remove spark plug and check for evidence of steam cleaning.

 

Looks like oil in the coolant. Cracked head/head gasket?

 

Check for a bad seal on your radiator cap/filler neck with a piece of glass.
Loosing that much coolant and not seeing any sign has to be evaporating out a hose,cap or radiator.

 

I did check the plugs there not steam cleaned and rad cap wasnt holding pressure so i changed it out as well

 

The engine light is on for a knock sensor but i dont think would have anything to do with

 

taste tailpipe [headgasket test] I'm tellin ya

 

It only works if you play 70's bow chicka chicka bow bow porno music when you taste it.

 

Pressurize cooling system and start engine. Water pump seals sometimes leak only when shaft rotating.

 

I got buddy bringing me a pressure tester so I will try that and if that doesnt tell me anything Ill do the hobo test to some porno music..thanks guys

 

Mine was losing little bits and building a pink stalagmite behind the water pump pulley but wasn't any half a radiator worth, maybe half of what is supposed to be in the overflow tank was all mine was losing. That green coolant doesn't look the right color green to me. Somethin's up, 3.4 history makes me bet on bad head gasket..............isn't there one on one side that's infamous for this? Wanna say towards back of passenger side head

 

It is indicating head gasket degradation but I prefer to check everything before diving into a major operation. Hobo test also works.

 

Are you over heating at all?
