I put a spacer inside mine to keep it "full" when it's not. A 4" thick foam that is the size of the door opening

Costco has one on sale that supposedly has Dometic compressor. Igloo maybe. Big one.

    Awesome tip.
Those frozen bottles may also speed up the freezing of fresh meat, and can also be used during really hot summer days.

"water bottles or whatever in it to keep it full as you remove stuff helps."

When I run a fridge in the back seat of my truck, I plug it into a 500w power station. I plug the power station into my truck's 12 cigarette plug. It charges it while I drive, and the 500w can usually keep my fridge going fine for 2-3 days without the truck turned on (depending on temps).

In my case I am trying to avoid having to buy a power station. Since i do a lot of offroad, hopefully a power station won't be needed.
If i want to do something more fancy, like To power anything like kettle or microwave, i bought a 1500w inverter I can run while the engine is running. 5 min of use.. Done...

Electric kettle For The Win. We love using ours. takes 100 watts to boil ~32oz of water (1L). We use ours off a big power station, but off your inverter works too. Cup-o-noodle, water for coffee or cocoa, those bags of mashed potatoes you just mix in boiling water, way easier than firing up a camp stove!

    Nice.

I read I can even run a angle grinder on that inverter.

Yesterday I tried the keettle. It worked.

Just a note: In my Taco, I've got the 400W anytime mod, so I can use the built in inverter at full power while driving. I've learned that if I'm in stop and go/idling traffic for any extended period of time my truck's dash lights up like a christmas tree, along with the low voltage light. Goes away when restarting the truck. Just wanted to mention it in case you end up idling your truck for awhile while running power tools and such. Not sure how long it really takes, but it happened each of the 3 times I was stuck in traffic before I figured it out. If actually cruising down the road, not stop and go, I've never had an issue. So yeah, if you see that happen, that might be why.

And one last thing, that was with a deep cycle battery under my hood and a voltage booster.

you can run it on the inverter but adding a load, making the grinder need more power, might trip it/ turn itself off. so check how much power it pulls vs the inverter you have.

I extended out a 12V line to the bed of the truck and connected this Noco socket plug; https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/...eyelets-adapter-0113014p.html?rq=noko+12v#srp

The ARB Fridge i borrowed did the job just fine on the 12V cig lighter outlet.

My inverter is a 1500w one.

And a 3000w is on its way. I will be testing, to see if it's legit.

What's your angle grinder amp rating? Inverters are most efficient running close to max load. You'll have your truck running, so won't matter as much as if off a battery bank, but just one more thing to think about on sizing your inverter.

Quart or 1/2 gallon milk cartons nest more tightly than round bottles so you get more ice and can choose which to best fit the space. I keep some in my freezer at home to help in case of power outages and increase thermal mass.

Alternator can’t keep up with power drain at idle or cruising in high gear. Try keeping a gear lower to boost rpm and there have been some diy’s to do the same at idle so you don’t need a 3rd foot while you’re in the back grinding away.

No lower gear to help me when stopped, lol. And had zero issues keeping up with power usage cruising in high gear. Anything above an idle I haven't had an issue.

I figured you just use your foot when stopped. A bigger inverter and higher draw would likely require extra rpm or even a higher output alternator not needed in your case.

for sure. I was only running a 400w inverter. Nowhere near the OPs 1500w.

    Arrived yesterday.
After 4 hours at - 18c, the 2 ice packs are half frozen.

Its easily controlled by a phone app.
Still need to test on a 12v cigarette lighter plug. I will do it on the next trip.

Yeah, it can overheat something or drain the battery?

I don't know why I would need, maybe a welder? No idea.

I may resell to a friend when it arrives.

    What are the risks?
