    Hello fellow Tacoma Fans!

I am a long time Toyota driver currently looking for a new (used; new to me) Toyota Tacoma. I'm looking for SR5 or TRD Sport. I want 4WD (preferred), Double Cab (preferred), long bed (required), automatic 5 or 6-speed transmission (required), V6 engine (required), MP3, auxiliary, or USB hook up, automatic locks, keyless entry, and automatic windows. This is an idea of what I'm looking for. I want to use it for hauling set pieces (I am an assistant theatre director for a school in which we travel to competitions), hauling a uHaul for set pieces, taking family trips to Colorado, possible off-roading adventures (albeit this is only a once a summer thing), and bad road conditions in the country during winters. I am from Kansas so weather, especially snow, is a concern for going out to the country families' houses on rough roads. It's my dream truck!

My big question: what am I getting with an SR5 or TRD Sport? What's the same on both vehicles? What are the differences?

Second question: As Tacoma owners, what do you suggest I look into?

I've read that 2009 Tacos aren't the best used cars. I've also read that 1st generation Tacos are great vehicles. My budget is to be determined. But if I had to guess $15,000-$20,000; maybe stretch it to $25,000 but that's a stretch.

I've always wanted a Toyota Tacoma ever since my dad got rid of his Toyota Tacoma. I've driven a 2001 Camry that has served my mom and then me very proud. But it's time for new vehicle (used but new to me) and I'd like to get a Tacoma. It's my dream truck!

SR5 you are getting your basic 4x4 navi tow, sports LSD. and Sport, hood, trd bilstein shocks, outlet in the rear. that's pretty much it and 17 inch rims

Rims don't matter to me that much. Does SR5 have a long bed option?

I used cargurus to find my truck. It took 2 months to find a decent price 4x4 long bed. I ended up with black which I intend to wrap with the money I saved.

    1. A badass truck!

    2. Everything, buying a used tacoma is the same as buying any other new car. Check everything twice, 4wd, AC, locks, windows, lights, etc... A mechanic helps but not even the best mechanics will find everything in one inspection. Trust your instinct, be rational and think logically when buying any vehicle.

    3. Previous owner maintenance goes a long way and parts will fail no matter what car/truck you drive.

I'll sell you mine $28k. :taco:

The TRD Sport will have a tow package but you will have to make sure an SR5 has it, not all do. Tow capacity is absolutely laughable on this truck without it.

    Get a Sport. Hood Skewp!!!

I bought mine about 5 years ago from Carmax. I felt that they treated me very well, so much so that we went back there this February to get the wife a Mazda 3 after her Ford Escape was totaled. I really liked that I was able to reserve the car online, and there was no pressure.

I would be very careful and doublecheck that it wasn't part of the frame recall with bad rust destroying the frame prematurely.

Look for an '07 or newer to hopefully avoid a few issues that earlier models had. As others have said, check underneath for rust. Whatever you find will probably be around the 100k mile mark, which means the transmission fluid will likely need changing, so go ahead and plan on that. Check the carfax for service history, any work done at a dealer should be listed on there.

My '07 did not come with a usb port or Bluetooth from the factory, but an aftermarket head unit solved that. I have no idea what model years came with it.

Just be careful buying a used Tacoma right now. Some people are quick to sell a truck with a rusted frame. You must have owned the truck last December to qualify for a free replacement frame.
