Have you ever checked out the SwingOut toolboxs? I loved mine when I had an 05 Tacoma with ARE shell. I'm planning to do those again with Softtopper so I have options with the bed usage and they can be easily removed. They may require moving your LED's if you have them in the back of the bed.

For some of those prices, I'd seriously look at making my own to fit.

If I hadn't gotten the quote back from Rimrock this is what I'd have done. I drew a similar one up in solidworks. It would have been about $850 in materials. Estimated fab time would've been about 12-15 hours. And paint job was quoted at $400. So, I'd have saved about $600 after taxes and shipping and it would have taken me probably 4 or 5 weekends to make.

Yes I have. I am concerned about them interfering with the bed extender. I don't have the extender yet but I'm saving for a Jan purchase. Possibly sooner. It looks like they would be in the way. I am considering building one (or having it built) that has drawers (probably 2) and fits under the cover and goes down to the bed. I'm still looking for something and it isn't an easy process.

finally getting around to uploading the pics of my rimrock mfg toolbox. fit and finish is great. drawers are smooth and sturdy with a full load. compartment sizes are well thought out and work well for my uses. overall, im pretty happy with the box.

I'd have to go back and look at the invoice, but it was somewhere around 1700

Nice drawer system. But I gotta ask, why do you have a cane in the tool box?

Depending on how many tools you need to carry there is the tailgate option.

I like the tailgate boxes, those are cool. Might mess with the locking mechanism on the 3rd gen however...

And I'm pretty sure the guy with the chrome one is hating his life right now. I bet a socket fell out of the blow-molded case and is rolling around the inside somewhere. Or every time he opens it they all fall out.

I found the second one on a Toyota overland site but can't refind it. The guy custom built it (I think for a 2nd gen?) and made it so it doesn't interference with the gate lock. I've wanted to do this to my truck for several years now.
There also Gate ate which is nice. Just Google tailgate toolbox, lots a interesting things out there.

Update: found it! Wagongear.com for an 80 series land cruizer

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the deck system coming out for the tacoma. I know when I called them last they said that a bunch of the staff wanted it too as they all had mid size trucks and it was light weight, but strong.

I've never seen one in person but they look to be good quality.

I believe it was their Facebook page where they recently said the Tacoma version was coming in early 2017.

From the research, I've done over the past few days it is slotted for a mid 2017 release, although that usually means late 2017 in my experience, hopefully this is not the case.
