I'm torn between an ARE MX and the cab height versions. Would really love to see a MX on a 2016 access cab before I decide. White, off road would be a bonus.
    Anyone?

    Thanks!

Can you share any insight about the cap? How have you liked it? Good things? Bad things? Did you mount the roof rack brackets yourself? Does it seem to seal well all around?

I might pick one up soon, and I've seen some questionable posts about other ARE models having bad seals to the tailgate, gaps, etc.

    Thanks!

I have been pretty happy with the topper, the windoor is really nice to have along with the carpeted headliner. The roof brackets were mounted by my topper dealer. I would say overall the fit is great and it seals relatively well (some leaking near the front, although I am planning to put a bulb seal on which should resolve that). The one quirk is that with the rear window closed and locked I can still open the tailgate. From what I understand this does not happen to everybody. Personally I have come to like it, it allows me to gain access to the bottom of the tailgate by just using the tailgate lock instead of unlocking with rear window.

Taco.jpg Biker, I'm quite happy with my MX. The rear door has a plastic part that covers the top of Taco's tailgate. You can open the tailgate while the cap's door is down but you'd have to force it open. I've been getting around 21 MPG, and the mileage has gone up over the last 2 fill ups.

Any issues with the height of this cap when parking in a garage?

I haven't put it in a garage yet. I don't think you'd have any problems unless it had a rack on it.

I have an ARE Z Series but I'm looking at this thread because I really need a taller she'll. Anyway, when I got mine, I could easily open the tailgate with the rear window closed and locked. It just brushed the bottom of the window, no forcing required. So I loosened the clamps and shifted the shell slightly forward; looking at it you wouldn't notice a difference. But now the tailgate is completely captured by the lip below the rear window.

Put together a quick bike rack in the back. It sure is nice having the bikes locked inside, and out of sight. Eventually I'd like to have them on a slide out for trips where I'm not camping. I bought a 1up rack that I'm building a swing away carrier for that I'll use on the longer trips so I can camp in the bed and have more room for gear.

That's how I carry my bikes, except with my ARE cab-high shell I have to have the fork mounts (Kuat thru-axle mounts) right down on the bed floor and I have to tilt my bikes to get them under window opening. What's the height above the bed rails or top of tailgate, to the lowest point of the rear window aperture? Thanks.

Have you had any problems with water leaking in?

Got mine installed today. Looks great but the carpet headliner is a little wet along the edge and see some water getting in at the rear door.

No problems with water leaking through the cap. But driving on a dusty road I had dust leak in between the Tacoma tailgate and the body. I think I'll add some weatherstripping to seal the gate. I still like the cap and would buy it again.

What’s the measurements from the truck bed to first opening of the shell with the cab and mid-rise? Also the interior height, truck bed to interior ceiling with cab height and mid-rise shells?
