Hi there! My 2004 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner is now missing the rubber plug that goes into the hole on the step part of the rear bumper, just below the license plate. I accidentally sheered it off the top of it while stepping on it and leaning into the bed a bit too aggressively. I can't find it ANYWHERE. I'm not even sure what its official name is, but please see the photo. I believe it's that third part from the left in the first row (circled). It looks like I can get it if I get a whole new bumper, but I just need the plug. Any help is appreciated!

Ok, really confused, because I thought that was it too, but when I search that part number, I see the square plug for where the ball hit slots in: https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~hitch-ball-hole-plug~pt228-35985-sm.html

I'd recommend checking at Home Depot or Ace Hardware for a plastic plug that will fit.

I need the same one, I'll post it if I find one that'll work.

Toyotapartsdeal has the wrong image up. I ordered that exact part# from Gary over @ Camelback toyota when they were active with the forum. Why I replied to your post.

All in the title... keyword 'Ball' not 'Trailer'

This is the reply I received to my message asking about that part#
Price is bit higher now but hey, that was 4 years ago lol

This would most likely work also. Maybe even a generic version at any parts store or harbor freight. I'm guessing its probably the same size hole for the standard hitch ball.

    Yeah, he was pretty cool.

I've since found partsouq and Toyota of Colorado Springs. Once you get the hang of partsouq and looking the vehicle up by VIN, it's all there. Shipping is damn fast too considering its coming from Dubai. Toyota of CS is pretty close to McGeorge and I stick with them simply because their shipping times are faster for me (west coast).

Many thanks!!! I actually ordered from my local dealership, then cancelled because I thought it was incorrect after searching the part #. I may go over there and talk to someone in the parts department just to make sure I get the right item (and they didn't send me that other cover purely based on the photo that might be associated with it). Thanks again!

When mine needed replacing I used a round tubing end cap from the local hardware store. I forget the size but it was plastic & fit the hole fine, just the cap diameter was a bit smaller than the factory rubber one. Replaced it later with OEM cause you could see the ring from the larger dia OEM one.

The two times I went to the dealer looking for rear bumper parts, my local dealers could never find the parts diagram for the rear bumper for any year 1st gen, only complete bed, bedsides, & tailgate.

Then one guy at dealer told me he remembered running into this issue so he asked his coworker. Solution was to look up T100 for rear bumper parts. When I bought my replacements they were only like $2ea at the time so I ordered a few of them.
(Edit: Oh nice I see the price surprisingly actually hasn't gone up like most everything else has)

Maybe it's Cyber Monday special! :)

But yeah, I just looked at some online dealers & their price is even cheaper than what I paid years ago way before pandemic/inflation. Shipping would kill it though if that's all you needed to order so paying a bit more local is a no brainer.

None of my local dealers' prices ever come close to online dealer parts prices. Heck even the prices between all my local dealers vary. One dealer I kinda know one of the parts guys so he gives me discounts but I haven't went to see him in a few years. Most of the time I just try to build a big enough order & order online.

At the parts counter, "Is that your best price?" almost always gets at least 10% knocked off the price.
