Hi, old new member here! I last posted in 2010 when I tried unsuccessfully to buy a Tacoma (couldn't get the deal I wanted). Now trying again in 2020 and looking at a 2020 SR Access Cab with the utility package. Was curious if these models have the standard bed liner because the truck I am looking at online says it includes a bed mat. I assume this is in conjunction with the standard 'liner' all Tacoma's have? Or does the SR not have a liner of some sort?

By the way, the truck I am thinking about test driving is $27,500. You think I can get that price lower? Big sale this July 4th weekend (since I missed end of the month today). Also was looking at a 2015 SR identical to the 2020 except it had 73,000 and was priced at $19,000! So that's why I an leaning towards a 2020.

Sorry to ramble on! Any thoughts are appreciated!

    Gus

All tacomas 2005+ have composite beds, no liners. The mats just help things from sliding around.

Big thing with SR's is typically no back seat, no painted bumper, no remote fob. Do some reading on here to make sure its the truck for you. SR's vary, but are very much the best utility with no frills.

SRs also don't have intermittent wipers. It's as bone stock dry as you can get, just wanted to add that point. Be sure to look it over carefully before buying.

It’s fairly close to MSRP at that price. You may be able to negotiate a deal tho, it is a pretty bare bones truck but if it suits your needs and you like it do what makes financial sense. Also give it a good test drive and look it inside out. It’s possible that an SR5 might be similarly priced with additional features you want.

    Edit:
This is a picture of the bed mat.

My sr Utility package was $25k back in 2018, I guess it went up since then. The bed lining is the same as all Tacoma’s, that plastic liner and it doesn’t come with a bed mat. No automatic wipers or headlights, no Qi charger, no back seat and no moving rear window. I bought this sr because I didn’t want a sunroof, rear seats, a bigger touchscreen radio and stuff like that.

IDK why but I love the SR's. I always get super excited when I see one on the road. It's the whole "blank canvas" thing that gets my imagine. Maybe when I pay of my pro I'll pick up an SR and start building a beast!

Just wish they still came in MT

I’m fairly certain they do now come with intermittent wipers. I believe that was one of the differences from 2019 to 2020. If not, it’s super easy to add them yourself for about $120

My 2020 SR with SX pkg has intermittent wipers and keyless entry and the little mostly useless jump seats. My 2019 did not, never did get the entry but like puppy, said intermittent is an easy add on. Not sure what the utility pkg has, may vary by region as well.

Gotta be a 4 cyl at that price. Imo, a 4 cyl in that truck just cuts it as a grocery getter.

The bed mat is $80 brand new, so you shouldn't even let that come into your consideration.

Also, new trucks are super easy to buy online because the package is the package and they can't screw you over as easily because you can compare apples to apples at various dealerships.

Get financing at a credit union beforehand, then the dealership can try to beat it. Gives you a negotiation starting point.

Toyota has 5 separate distributor districts, so call dealers in other states/districts. The Southeast Toyota deals and incentives are always different than Gulf States Toyota deals on the same trucks. I bought from a small town dealer in a neighboring state because they WANTED to move trucks and the local city dealerships want to fuck you over because they don't care. There was a 5k difference on the same truck.

4cyl 2wd trucks are just fine for 99% of the stuff you will ever do. If you aren't rock crawling then its still a truck and you have to get groceries if you want to eat.

    Good luck!

I have a 2020 SR Access Cab and it HAS intermittent wipers. A mechanic at an independant shop who used to work for Toyota said I have an upgraded interior?? This truck has more than enough gadgets for me!!!! I Love it!

Wow, thanks for the quick replies everyone! Really appreciate it!

No, I won't ever be going off-road and this truck would be my go-to vehicle for picking up lumber, bags of mulch, furniture at a yard sale, etc. I just have had the itch to get another truck since my 91 Toyota and got a Ram 1500 right after that in '05 but it got 11 mpg!

Was thinking about a Ranger, too, but think Toyota is the way to go.

It's weird that of all the things they could remove with the utility package downgrade they chose intermittent wipers.

Going to test drive the SR today!

Thank you all again and I plan to be back!

I got the bed extender for $60. I picked up 17' trim from the lumber yard the other day, worked like a charm.

    Lots, straight from the factory.
    I’m assuming it’s a V6 and 4x4? That’s about what I paid for my 2019, plus TTL. I was out the door for $29,xxx.

    Looking at a 4x4, 4 cylinder.

Only thing I really want added to the truck would be mud guards...

Those are $40 for a set of factory mudflaps. Order it from the same place you get your bed mat. lol

I was looking online for a tacoma sr from dealers here. Only saw one 4 cyl access cab, plus a few 6cyl dd cab long and short beds. Noted all of them now made in mexico. Don't know if a good thing or not. My access cab was built in texas...its been flawless compared if you read all the complaints on tw.

My 2020 is made in Texas according to the door sticker, so they are still around.
