Is anyone else besides me building a long travel third gen? Let's talk about how fun it is chopping up a new truck!

I'm curious what others are doing. How the parts are fitting. And of course pics!

I am working on one here at shop LSK, Brand new truck, full kill build. Our Lt kit all bolt on. I can say fitting 35's to tuck was really hard. At the time there was only mcniel front fenders 6" so huge . Now there should be others making it. In the rear it is 4 Linked with 40gal fuel cell. Stock trussed axle. 35" raceline beadlocks. Not sure what the owner is going to regear but we are not doing it. I do know it may hate life unless its geared to 488 or 529. The front suspension seems to be the same as previous years. The rear is same pretty much too. The axle in the rear seems to be wider but I could be wrong its pretty close to being same as wide as my tundra axle. And cab cage I gutted the heck outta this thing. But stock dash with ac was able to stay. All 2" tube so that's pretty rad. There is just enough room to do it. Were doing a 4 seater , full size prp seats. The frames on these are not boxed like the first gens through out but it is double layered. They seemed to copy manythings off the tundra.

Can you guys explain why LT is so different from regular as far as components? It doesn't sound very bolt on. What all do you have to cut up?

I would recommend checking out the stickys at the top of the LT forum. Long story short, your UCAs, LCAs, and axles ALL get moved out wider to a given distance like 2, 3.5, 4.5, or 6 inches wider. The more diagonal the coilover gets, the more potential travel is gained. Think of it like a 30-60-90 triangle. The hypotenuse will always be the greatest of the three sections. When you go LT, you go from being the vertical leg to they hypotenuse. The more drastic the angle and wider, the more travel.

Keep in mind, with LT you are also committing to getting new UCAs and LCAs that are similar in price to OEM ones. The difference is since you cant mix match different widths of components at once due to geometric incompatibility, you have to commit all at once. This is the main challenge that LT is to the common man. It also forces you to commit to upgraded UCA and LCA while many mid travel guys may never get LCAs depending on their needs. What makes LT strong and able to withstand stuff is your front HAS to have these components which help make it smoother as well since you have nice bushings and what not in the construction.

Hope that helps to understand on a basic level.

Highly Recommend the Total Chaos Kit. Installs perfectly and rides incredible. No Flaws at all. These guys know how to build solid stuff.

How is your build coming? Given time and (a lot)money I will go LT.

After 56 miles of forest service roads yesterday, I had to much fun. I have always wanted to rally cross in some form or fashion. I travel out west a good bit and want to trail and at the same time hit the higher speed dirt roads.

Yep, a Ford I believe was backing out without even looking as he hit him at 40 mph. I think the bumper ate it pretty good, but the frame def crunched up to a degree to where it was a loss.

I think he got a Chevy or something. I don't think he wanted to invest in a taco again.
