I have a white Limited on order and have been wondering whether to spring for a LoJack. They're expensive but said to work well. Don't really know whether Taco's are a favorite for thieves but it seems like the high resale would make them a target. I did read that dealers sell them high so better to shop elsewhere. I'd be curious to know how others think about this, whether you've gone or will go this route with your '16. Thanks. Btw, I have really appreciated all the info on this site. Very helpful through the wait and shopping experience.

I got lojack as part of a "financing deal" when I bought the truck. sorta feels like a waste of money, but I guess I wouldn't think that if my truck was actually stolen. I guess you have to weigh the risk of auto theft in your area vs the cost of lojack.

Get it, it's WELL worth it. I work in Law Enforcement in one of the worst parts in California. During my career, I have recovered many stolen vehicles. Those with LoJack are usually recovered within 24 hours and a majority before they are stripped down completely.

My '16 Taco is almost a week old and I sprung for it. That being said, they wanted to charge me almost a grand. When all was said and done, I paid $400 out the door for it. Law enforcement get a discount from LoJack directly but I'd rather have the dealer install everything.

    Hope this helps.

I'd be more concerned about the catalytic converter being sawed off and stolen than the truck itself, at least in MN that is.

I've seen more catalytic converters stolen off newer 4Runners than any other vehicle. I'm guessing the new Tacoma's catalytic converter will have just as high scrap value for the local low life dopers here in MN.

I don't remember the details, but the design of the new engine exhaust puts the cat tucked up away harder to reach on the 2016. Anyone remember? I'll see if I can find it...

The only time I would spring for it is if this were the case, it was recovered untouched in 24 hours or less, OR if the cost of the LoJack was considerably lower than my insurance deductible.
To me it makes ZERO sense to spend $500 or more on a LoJack if I only have to pay $500 if my car is stolen.
This is how I feel only if my truck is adequately insured for it's mods.

When people steal your car, you rarely want it back. So you have to locate it very, very quickly to make the device worth it. If this happens, probably something worth it if you feel your truck will get stolen.

I agree about the insurance that's why we have zero deductible but the LoJack also gives a discount on our insurance and in the city I work in, we have a task force specifically for stolen cars so we recover most LoJack cars within 24 hours unharmed. But that's just my two cents. I doubt I would ever pay full price for LoJack.

As for the Cats...I hope that are in a tougher spot to get two but it will be just a matter of time before they find a quick way to steal those. I remember an old thread where someone was making a shield to make them more difficult to steal on here. That was about a year ago when I bought my '14 Taco.

You can buy GPS trackers pretty cheap anymore. Those would be just as good and will locate vehicle out of Lo-Jack range

Buy a cheap phone with a cheap plan and hide it in the truck. Poor man's lojack.

I have insurance and if my truck gets stolen, I don't want it back. I'll rather take the insurance and buy another.
