I guess I am weird but I hate locking lug nuts on my wheels. I haven’t looked yet (since buying the truck) but I assume that there is a tool for the locking lugs in the truck tool pouch. I hope so anyway.
I am replacing the “Toyo tired” OEM wheels with some BF Goodrich KO2’s mounted on Method Double Standard rims next week.
The plan is to swap the OEM TPSM sensors and wheel lugs too. But honestly - I may just ditch those locks if it is relatively cheap to match/replace them. Anyone else?

    12/1/17 Amendment:

When I searched my truck, I discovered that the wheel lock key was not provided by the stealership when I purchased my new truck. They offered to replace it next time I was in the neighborhood. Ha. 25 miles away. Right.

Fortunately the shop where I was heading to mount/install my NEW wheels and tires had no problem removing them. Onward.

My next hurtle was discovering that my new Method “Double Standard” wheels did not include lug nuts. I was sure they did. I was wrong. So the shop guys had to put the OEM wheels back on!

Luckily - they didn’t charge me for it and I found some compatible lugs at a local custom shop 5 miles down the road. So I spent $69 on new lugs and my favorite tire shop did the deed for me on my way back home.

Oh - You want to ask how do they look? SWEET!

I always thought they were useless, especially since everyone keeps the key in the truck. (in case of a flat) A thief has no moral qualms with breaking into the truck to get the key from the glovebox. Then you end up with lost wheels and a smashed window.
That and the locking nuts aren't very hard to remove without the key anyway.

Like most locks, they only keep honest people honest.

locking lug nuts are useless now. when they first came out it was great but now anyone can buy a strip socket on ebay for $20 and take any locking lug nut under 10 seconds. so dont waste your time with that crap

I respectfully disagree, I have bought wheels locks for various vehicles I have owned sense 1975, I believe "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure " hoping thieves will pass me by once they are aware of my locks, this may be another instance of " Placebo effect" but I would have them insted of nothing at all.

you make a good point. better than not having it i guess. of course if they really want to steal it they will find a way but why not make them work for it. if you can not lose the key then its not a bad idea, but we deal with several customers a week where they come in needing tires but they lost the key so now they have to pay extra $80 just to remove the locks. in the end, if they steal your rims even if you had locks on them, at least you can say you tried to prevent it.

    I don't think I could agree w/ you.

There is a locking bolts and nuts from RimLox which is damn near impossible to remove without it's key. The company even gives you 100% guarantee on your wheels and insures your wheel and would replace them if they are ever stolen. Their heads are made of specially cut jigsaw puzzle unique for you which only their key could remove. Their website even has a few videos of them taking their wheels to different wheel shops challenging them to remove it. One time investment, lifetime guarantee. A bit pricey but totally worth it, I think it's $250 for a set of 4. It's market is usually people with very high end cars and wheels, not us poor Toyota owners.

just looked into that, looks like i should have been more specific. I was talking about the original wheel locks that 99% of the people get. like the ones you get from the dealer. the only problem i have with the rimlox is that first, what happens when you lose the key? i understand the company have the code and can make you another key but if your in the trail, or on the side of the highway, or even at the shop doing an emergency repair, you dont have several days to wait for a new key. second, that price is just crazy. $400 for locking lugs? you better have $2000 rims on that truck. i think the price is whats keeping people from buying it because i have never heard of this before or even seen one come through our shop. and we have high-end vehicles like Lambos, Ferraris, Maserati's come in with regular locking lugs.

Yeah, the price is very steep. I think their customers are ones with exotic and expensive cars, and chances are they keep their locks key safe. Not for trucks.
I've given them some consideration because my ray10s alone cost near $1400 not including the price for 4 new tires, but then I got my insurance agent to cover it for me. And the cheap Autozone gorrilla wheel locks you've mentioned, yeah, almost every shop has the keys to remove those.

yup your absolutely right, it will be purchased mostly by people with high-end cars. but for regular folks like us, its not so easy to shell out 400 beans for lugs
